I've been switching between LauncherPro Plus and Sense UI, and I'm wondering if using LPP as default will mean that HTC services (that usually run when Sense is being utilized) won't be used and won't run in the background?

Anyone care to enlighten me?

I've been LauncherPro Plus for past week now, and like it a lot. I now have 28 icons on my home page! Plus the time/weather widget. I haven't noticed any problem using this app. Everything seems to run normally.

Sense will run in the background.
FWIW, give Go Launcher a try. I think it's much better than Launcher Pro at this point.

So, it's kinda pointless at time to use LPP when Sense is still running. And that's a huge chunk of resource that I wouldn't mind getting back. I do love LPP's scrollable and customizable dock, and it's 5 rows setup.

I don't know how much of a draw Sense running in the background actually is, but it doesn't seem to matter much. The phone runs perfectly even with it. I don't think Sense uses too many resources, as long as you disable News, Stocks, etc.. syncing.

I have heard this recommendation about Go Launcher on several threads, but I wonder where do you get the widgets to go with it? It seems to me that I have to download 10+ different apps/widgets just to get what Sense provides in one package. I really like Sense, but the forums keep recommending these other launchers, so like any other Android noobie, I am out exploring. :D I was a theme fanatic on the BlackBerry, so it's only natural for me to start playing with the way the screen looks.

Hmm, I don't really know how to answer your question. I keep my homescreen pretty minimalist, I hardly use any widgets. What widgets I do use are a combination of tasker and minimalist text widget. There are almost no graphics on my homescreen.

Yeah I have been giving sense a shot (first HTC phone - and certainly not my last). I'm loving the sense and I was a hardcore LP user.

Quick tip to help with organizing.... Get "Simi Folder widget" from the market. Free and it rocks!!

Yeah, I haven't experienced any problems yet, but I do not like the idea of having another homescreen running in the background. I have Contact, Calendar. Gallery and Weather widget running while using Sense, so I know that resource consumption won't be high. But still.

Like any of the other home screen replacements, Launcher Pro runs on top of the stock GUI. It does not actually replace it.

Hence, anything running within Sense will continue to run if using LPP.

I just got the TB after using the Moto Droid (original) for almost 2 years. With the Moto Droid, if you wanted it to run smoothly when using another home screen replacement, it was recommended to delete all widgets, etc on the stock home screen, then run whatever replacement you wanted.

Again, this is because such replacements run on top of the stock. So if you have widgets running on the stock home screen and on the replacement home screen, you are running duplicate widgets, using twice as many resources.

I installed LP on top of Sense and noticed no significant decline in performance. It clearly has a better processor than my moto droid which explains a lot :D

2 years? More like a year and a half (i bought the droid launch do, i'd know) and as for the no decline in performance, it also has to do with the 768mb ram it has vs the little bit the droid had in addition to the cpu that's in it.

oh you must have missed where I said "almost" two years. I'm not OCD.

and yes, RAM affects performance too. thanks for being super OCD :p

It would be really great if, buried in some deep, dark menu where ordinary people won't find it, HTC allowed for the switching of their phones to stock Android.
