Launchers

You can put the search bar on Nova too. Lol. And the bar is even customizable.
There's a slight but perceptible lag when opening Google search with Nova's search bar. Samsung guys probably won't notice this though

And you need a separate module to get the swipe right for Google Now with Nova to work. No thanks.

I don't bother with the search bar. I have the Home button set up to open the Google app with a short tap if it's already on a homescreen -- it comes up immediately. Also set up Home button long-press to bring up Google Assistant (although granted, I can also squeeze the phone for that).

I've always used Nova after using the stock launcher for a few weeks except this time. I really find no need to switch from the stock launcher it does everything I need it to.

Also my point.

I was using Nova on every device I had before. Nova always improved the smoothness of the stock launcher.

Except for the Pixel:)
The transitions, the animations and overall smoothness on the stock pixel launcher is just the best I ever experienced.

Nova rocks, I have it on all phones. for me there is no better way of making the phone exactly how I like it.

I'm going to be an oddball here, but I found the Blackberry launcher (available from the google play store) to be nearly perfect. I make great use of the pop-up widgets (the regular app icon, but if you swipe up, it displays the apps widget), so you can keep the screen clean, and have a wealth of information at your fingertips all at the same time. As far as making it pretty, can't say I've done much on that front, and Nova will probably be better there. I figure I'm not often just staring at my home screen, and if I am, it's to get specific information from the widgets placed there. Spending less time looking at the phone, the longer the battery lasts through the day...

I bought Nova Prime several years ago during a Christmas 25¢ sale. I have never used it.

Then you wasted a quarter. Me? I used Nova. After I'd used it for a few months I tried Pixel Launcher again and quickly went back to Nova. My primary motivation to change was to get rid of the Google Search bar and the weather info that was always wrong.

I should add I'm not a "power" user. No social media, no games. I have only 21 apps on call.

The main reason I use Nova is because I want to have 7 dock icons and an 8 by 8 grid with smaller icons.

How intrusive are the ads?

I only recall ads on the blackberry Hub app (and even though they were inline with the other messages they weren't "intrusive" at all", not the launcher. But I also pay the $1/mo to have the ads off of that since I find it quite useful. If there were ads in the blackberry launcher, they were in the settings only?? Definitely nothing was popping up all over the screen.

There are so many reasons that I like, and use, Nova Prime.

For those who are still stuck on the native launcher, I've got just one question: When you switch phones, do a factory reset, or otherwise need to go back to a previously used screen layout how many hours do you spend moving all the icons around are creating folders?

The ability to backup and restore is something I just can't live without.

I've used Nova for a long time and still do on 3 other devices but I'm using the Pixel Launcher on my Pixel 2. It's slightly quicker and smoother than Nova. It takes me less than 10 minutes to restore my screen on my Pixel 2. Not a big deal.

If you use the stock launcher, Google will save your layout when it does it's data backup. So when you restore, all that stuff gets reloaded.

really like Evie. still basically stock but can do icon packs and customize folder and icon sizes. grids etc.

I'm using stock launcher til I get board then will go with Nova. You can save your Nova layout and put it on any phone.
