Launchers

I have Nova Prime, but with Samsung phones I don't use it. I like what they do to Android. I do have to change several things from the default though.

Do you know if, with the default launcher, the Google search bar can be moved to another page so that it doesn't take up real estate on the main desktop page? –I don't get my phone until tomorrow but I've been wanting to do this on my Pixel 2. I'd love to be able to move it to the Google page that's to the left of the main desktop page.

Yes, I have mine on a page by itself.

Edit: Just re-read your post. You can't move it to the left b/c that's reserved for Bixby, but you can move it to any page you create to the right.

Hmmm, I've never swiped left on my Tab S4 to realize that Bixby lives there. I thought I read that Bixby could now be disabled–am I right about this? If so, would that release that space to use any way you'd want to use it, i.e. moving the search box there?

Can you tell me how you moved your search box?

Thanks!!

You could always make a second page to use as your main home screen page, then you could put the search bar to the left, but no. Even if Bixby is disabled, the out of the box main screen can't have anything moved to the left. Only the right.

Thanks, I assumed that, but thanks for the verification. How do you you actually move the Google search box though? I've looked for a way to do this in settings, haven't found a way to do it.

Just long press on it. You can move and resize it then.

I've tried that on the Pixel 2, but it doesn't work. I'll try it on the N10 when I get it tomorrow.

Thanks for your help! I didn't mean to hijack this thread . . .

No worries, I'm the king of hijacking and derailing threads.

For you folks no longer using Nova, what do you do to replace or how do you live without the app gestures, like swipe up shortcuts?
I have many and if I used the Samsung launcher, I'd be swiping up on apps waiting for the shortcut to happen.

I ditched Nova years ago. Samsung's launcher has been a lot smoother since the S8. Plus you don't need to download that dumb telsa app to get notifications.

I didn't use many of those gestures.

This is why I don't see myself ditching Nova any time soon. I am too accustomed to the gestures and shortcuts.

I mostly just used it to change things aesthetically. Maybe a gesture here and there.

I've been using Microsoft Launcher for a couple years now. It's come a long way from its Arrow days. It's just as capable as Nova and it doesn't require a lot of overhead... Oh yeah, it's fully functional AND free.

Since I'm more in to Microsoft's ecosystem than Google's this is a better fit for me.

Yeah, it you don't use the gestures/shortcuts much, I could see exploring other launchers. But I pretty much have an action for every gesture and also a shortcut for swiping up on nearly every app/icon on my home page(s). For example, if I swipe up on my Netflix icon, it takes me to Amazon video instead. After taking advantage of all of that, it would take a lot of time and frustration to try and get used to not having it.

The stock Samsung Launcher doesn't do enough for me. I like my stuff to be where I want it and have it look the way I want it to. Not that the stock one is terrible, but Nova allows me to make it mine.

Tesla is unnecessary now.

I read that without Tesla, the badges go away when you clear the notification. I still have Tesla, so I have not confirmed that, but that would be a pretty poor design if true.

As many have said, I've used Nova Prime for a long time, especially with TW. Ever since One UI though, I do like what Samsung has done and felt no need. Might try Microsoft Launcher for a bit just for fun though.
