LCD Density Changer - Android app on AppBrain

In case you wanted to change the LCD Density on the Optimus S

It does work - default is 160, I tried settings of 240 and 120

240 makes everything HUGE

120 makes it pretty small - but still responsive, quick, and touch panel is accurate.

Just throwing it out if anyone wanted to mess around with this.

I consistently use 140 and that works well for 5x5 icons on my home screen. I've had no issues with any apps on that setting. I wish there was an option in ThundeRom to set it on boot, or to set it with custom recovery.

You can just add a line to your build.prop to change your lcd density so it sticks on reboot:

ro.sf.lcd_density=140

My eyes are old, I prefer the stock 160!!

Hmmm... ADW crashes consistently when I change the density. Haven't tried other launchers or switching it to a higher density, only less than 160. Using lego rom too. I'll mess around with it later to see what solves the crash.

Nice - once I find a comfortable setpoint with the app, I'll code it in and save the space (every KB helps - I may soon do the same with the overclocking).

My eyes are young, so I like the extra desktop space of a high resolution phone. I've got it set on 140 with a 6x6 icon desktop a'la ADW. ADW, incidently, did crash on me (well not completely - gave me the option to wait) when I first changed the density, but no problems since. TR 1.6.2 + deluxe

Once set to 120, do you need another launcher or can the standard launcher go above the 4X4 icons to 5X5 or 6X6 on the home screens and if so, how?

I believe you need another launcher. I have always used launcherPro, free or paid. I prefer paid as I like the launcherPro Plus widgets. In the launcherPro settings it gives you the option of vertical and horizontal lines.

This did not work for me. I put in 120 in the build.prop and it booted into normal 160. After the app puts it into 120 there is no change in the build.prop so it must use another method. I, too, would like to save the space of the app. Has the added line in the build.prop worked for anyone?

I use this on my Nook to see what densities work with different apps. The last release for that device settled on a density of 161 for most things.

I added a change to 140 to the build.prop and it's working fine.

It goes in /system/build.prop and where in particular - end, anywhere, a specific location?

Don't think there's a specific location; I just put it at the end of the build.prop contents.

Make sure your build.prop doesn't already have that line. If it does, just modify it (or you can comment it out with a # at the beginning of the line).

I can confirm that ro.sf.lcd_density=140 works fine, added to the end of the build.prop.

Edit. 120 works fine too... a bit small but that can be fixed for the most part with ADW EX...

Editx2: you do have to restart the phone for the build.prop change to take effect...

what is the default dpi this optimus s says 160. I changed it to 137 and 140 and they have worked fine before. Now when I change to anything it just shows a blurry screen like a pen exploded on the screen.

any ideas what's going on.

edit: changed it to 140 and works fine again. crazy right.

Why is it when I try to change mine it doesn't do anything??

Simple. Just download blade buddy from the market, and edit the 2 density settings to either 140 or 120...which is smaller. Make sure values actually show change on both options after changing. Push menu button, select save, and then select reboot when it asks. And it should stick. You can backup blade buddy on titanium and uninstall it until you want to change it again. Remember default is 160.

I had to change two lines to make mine work:

Code:
qemu.sf.lcd_density=160
ro.sf.lcd_density=160

I set both of mine to 140. I have middle-aged eyes and I found this density alright for me.
