Leaked ics

If you wait and get the OTA, then most likely it would not require a data wipe and as such your settings would be kept. If you were to install the full ruu from the leaked ics, then you would have to do a data wipe, so you will have to redo all of your settings.

Also, if this leaked version is not the same as the OTA, then most likely, you will have to do a manual install through the official ruu similar to the leaked one here if you wished to get the OTA or future OTAs, and that would require another data wipe and loss of settings. Of course, if the leaked ics is the same as the OTA, then the next OTA should come automatically.

Thanks Got it

If you do decide to download and install the leak build. It might be a good idea to select back up your settings and auto restore from the privacy settings before powering GB down for the last time.

I noticed it seems to back up some settings, but not all. Certainly worth a try, of course.

also, remember, if you are not rooted, then you won't be able to go back, it is a one way street. You cannot revert to the current gb software.

I am not sure about root, i know with s off then you can use older radios but I the rezound doesn't have s- off yet. Perhaps someone more knowledgeable can provide input.

From what I can gather, someone who is good with ADB would be able to go back. And I don't mean good in I can move something from my computer to my sd card in ADB. So I'm gonna say, no, you can't go back. On the plus side, you won't want to go back. The new leak is great. ICS is great. If the leak is what the OTA is, then all the "Sense is laggy" people will shut up.

This is as official as the rooting community gets, because it had firmware, which was what we were lacking before. The devs had to make ICS work on gingerbread firmware.

Did I mention it's awesome?

I'm also gonna go with this rule of rooting and flashing. Don't restore anything. Almost all people problems are from restoring things. Settings are easy to set up. Apps are easy to download, trying to figure out why gmail won't update because you restored something, not easy. I flash a rom a week, or more, and start from scratch every time. But, I don't care about 100 texts that say "I'll be there in a sec", "Call you in a minute", "LOLOLOLOL" "I'm praying to the almighty sewer god, while reading "Fight Club", call you soon".

Go read though some of the Rom threads on XDA. It's maddening.

I'd say no w/ an asterisk. I don't see it being difficult for someone with a "unicorn", the rare s-off dev. model & a good understanding of android shell commands. I just don't see anyone wasting time to map out that process unless they find themselves forced to.

On that note, the big difference with the updated firmware, is that it's no longer a generic experience. Optimized dual core processing can finally be experienced by everyone in the manner it was intended.

I agree w/ that in general but I have never had a detrimental experience with apps backed up in Astro, in the past with an OS upgrade. Exporting has always been smooth for me. Maybe I'm an anomoly but I'm not gonna be sold on restored settings being a major culprit for issues until I experience it. Sure, a risk is there but that's about it. I could see it being a pain if the SD was previously damaged, it became unmounted or gets damged in some manner, while installing the upgrade, though.

kind of too late for me to test this, but, would moving apps to the sd card keep them and/or app data from getting zapped from an upgrade? (i.e. my Angry Birds space progress)

thanks,

thanks,

there are apps to back up your angry birds data. not sure if it works with space yet though. but i have seen it for some other angry brids.

thanks,

If you used a file manager like Astro, while stock, to back up apps onto the ext_SD. I've never had a problem doing that, so I don't see it being a problem. I have read others who ran into problems if they used a 3rd party file manager of ill repute. It's not like your manually saving system settings from GB to toss in ICS blindly.

yeah, that was my experience some time ago,I was hoping that something has changed since then. i guess not. that to me is the biggest reason to root, since ics can disable bloat now, or at least the leaked ics could.

These are not dumb questions. Since they were answered, some advice. I'd hold off on this if your not rooted. See how this pans out over the next handful of days. You are asking for a nightmare if you just jump in. If/when you do, backup contacts and apps. It will wipe everything. Be cautious of the urge b/c it is irreversible to revert back to stock GB 2.3.4 / Sense 3.5 unless you unlock and root and flash a stock RUU. I really stress this if you previously had no interest in rooting your Rezound and planned on waiting for the official ICS OTA to beckon.

I am not rooted (because I just don't know enough about the process and I am fearful that I will screw things up) so I think I am going to take your advice and just not do anything. My phone works great right now and though I really can't wait to see ICS, I would be really upset if the leak didn't work well and I could not even revert back to the original OS.

However, just for my own information, I am interested in learning where one would go to download the leak.

Thanks everyone!!

Things are going well for those who have done the stock update. Most complaints I've read have been due to the .zip not installing on their first attempt, second attempt usuall does it, though. There haven't been many complaints/reports about the builds contents causing headaches. Although, it's still a little early to tell, it sounds like it's actually very stable on non-rooted phones. It's your decision if you want to try the stock install but the risk factor is diminishing by the hour. This the link that AC linked for us denizens in the Rezound forum:

I've had my phone randomly reboot once every two days since installing the update. Every time has been in a low signal area. I'm not complaining because I made the choice to install the update, but just giving everyone a heads up.

The Rezound is almost unbrickable. Now depending on what you do, you might not be able to use your phone while you're figuring out what you did wrong but it can always be brought back...I've only heard of one case of a true brick from unlocking/ROM'ing but somehow that person blew up their flash memory and that's the very rare exception rather than the rule..

Quick question: If the leak is installed, will it get the full OTA update still from Verizon?

Yes and no. You can still install the official update when it is released, just not via the standard OTA method. You'll have to download the .zip file & apply it the same way that this unofficial leak is installed. Either way it's a painless process, which doesn't require much know how to get it done. Which is nice for those who worry about the "r" word.

assuming that the OTA is the same as the leaked ruu, then you should be able to get the next OTA. If the leaked ruu isn't the same as the RUU, then you would have to download the OTA RUU and flash it.
