Leaked pics of the Moto Droid HD!

"Sadly, all this thinness comes from the fact that the HD will not be a 4G LTE capable phone. It will be a world phone, nonetheless."

smh

It's a possibility, but I wouldn't take that write-up to the bank. They say the HD trumps the Bionic in every aspect, then go on to spec the same processor, the same amount of RAM and no LTE capability?

Sounds like they're comparing CES Bionic to the HD, and if that's the case, I wouldn't even trust the claim that the HD doesn't have an LTE chip.

They fail reading comprehension... They have this post as the source for their post. Engadget

We've just received a fascinating set of photos from a sharp-eyed tipster, who sent along images of what appear to be Motorola's Droid Bionic and, most alluringly, that rumored handset known as the Droid HD (pictured above). This isn't the first time we've seen leaked images of the Bionic in the wild, but these shots are certainly a lot clearer than any others we've come across. Still, there aren't too many surprises here, with the global-capable handset boasting a TI OMAP 4430 1GHz dual-core CPU, 1GB of RAM, 4.5-inch display, an 8 megapixel rear camera, and microUSB / HDMI ports.

The real intrigue, however, lies with the Droid HD. Judging from the photos, this device seems to be running Gingerbread, and rocks a 4.5-inch display (presumably with qHD or even 1280x720 resolution, considering the device's name), an 8 megapixel 1080p rear-facing camera, a front-facing shooter and the usual set of microUSB / HDMI ports. There's also a pair of side loading SIM and microSD slots on the left side of the device, a volume rocker and what looks like a power button on the right, a slight bump for the camera pod around back (which sports an LED flash and speaker, as well), along with a large, thin battery that appears to be removable. Perhaps most notable about the HD is its seemingly super thin design -- we're estimating it's between 8.5 and 9mm, which would put it in the same league as Samsung's Galaxy S II, which measures 8.49mm. We'll have to wait for more detailed information on this mystery phone, but you can get a closer look right now in the gallery, below.

The entire first paragraph where it talks about processor and screen size is talking about the Bionic. Even though they have the Bionic's screen size wrong, I don't think screen size had been confirmed to be 4.3" when that was posted. It isn't until the second paragraph that they discuss specs of the Droid HD. No mention at all of internals like processor or radio for the Droid HD in the Engadget post. I would give the Techie-buzz post exactly 0 weight.

Absolutely zero basis for them to make that claim. Admittedly, the thinness calls into question the issue of LTE. But, everyone posting on the forums who has claimed to have seen/tested it says that it's LTE. Not exactly rock-solid confirmation, but it's a helluva lot more basis than what those guys have...

I have questioned as much as anyone from day one if this phone will be LTE or not. I have been lead to believe by BMX's post and by Sussuro over at HOFO that it is in fact a LTE phone (however BMX said it was Next Gen LTE and Sussuro said that it's not). But as much as I would normally trust BMX on something like this, I am not getting my hopes up until I see some proof.

I believe this phone is being put out there to compete with the GSII and the I*hone. So it doesn't have to be LTE to do this (unless sammy suprises us). It plain and simple just has to be ultra Thin, have a "prettier" screen, and run very smooth. If they can manage LTE in that tight package, than look out.. Moto might have one hell of a holiday season.

Moto JUST finished their first LTE radio with the Bionic. It seems quite unlikely that they have built a better chip already. I believe we are still a little ways out for 2nd gen chips.

Susurro over at HoFo said that devices won't start seeing 2d gen LTE chips until mid-'12, fwiw...

I would think they had the first chip completed before the CES Bionic, roughly 20 years ago now. lol
Hopefully, they could have completed an updated version since. -fingerscrossed-

The issues with the CES Bionic is why they decided to build it in the first place. Hence the delay. Well, I shouldn't call it a delay since the Targa was a Q3 release anyway, but still.

since Moto is only now putting it's own LTE chip in phones, we don't know how big it is or how much thickness it requires. thus, we can't say that the HD is too thin to accommodate an LTE chip. that Techie Buzz speculation has zero basis, especially since they don't cite any sources, but merely rely on the Engadget report (which is silent on the LTE issue). with cautious optimism, i will rely on the people who claim to have seen and tested the device, and they all say it is LTE. moreover, at this point, i can't envision Moto releasing any more non-LTE dual core devices, especially when the HD is generating so much buzz as a new flagship device.

The HD has no buzz outside of the very few people on these forums. If you ask 1000 people who walk into Verizon none will have heard of it.

and your basis for that statement is.......??? rumors of the HD have been all over the tech sites the past week. do a google search for "motorola droid hd", and you'll see what i mean (by my count, more than 50 different sites have reported on it).

besides, i was talking mainly about the buzz with Moto, VZW, and the tech sites. info leaking out is that Moto and VZW (and particularly VZW) are pretty excited about this phone. that most likely means a lot of marketing dollars will be put behind it (especially if it's a holiday release, as expected). it also means the tech sites will take a close look at it, and do reviews and reports. and so on...

...then go ask those 1000 people if they've heard of the DHD.

You are mistaken. Verizon hasn't approved any second gen lte chips yet, and the only way this handset could be this thin is if it had one.

i'm not saying that it's going to have a 2d gen LTE chip - in fact, i think it's pretty clear it won't. but, Moto has it's own 1st gen LTE chip, which we haven't seen yet. and, if we haven't seen it yet, then how do we know it won't fit in the HD?? that's my point...

It will become more known once any actual specs are leaked. We have nice pictures, but we have no idea what we are actually looking at....

The Droid 4 is almost a year a way. There's no chance that the XT912 is it if its already in cellbrite.

what makes you say that? i hope that the DHD showing up in CelleBrite is the Spyder/RAZR, cuz that's right at the top of my list for devices, along with the Nexus. but, the Spyder seems to be an upgraded Bionic, and it would make sense that they would release the D4 before the Spyder, since the D3 has been out longer than the Bionic and the D3 is not LTE.
