Not sure about jellybean, but ics and gingerbread build fine on 32bit.

I couldnt get jellybean to build on 32-bit, if I remember right it was complaining about the toolchains not being able to execute. that might have changed by now, I no longer work on jellybean.

The main problem will be that building android from source using 4.0+ requires a 64-bit CPU for some reason.

Jonny, do you know what Atom you have? My netbook has an N450 and it's 64-bit. Also if you're using WUBI it will automatically download the correct architecture.

this is not completely true, I build ICS on my 32-bit box all the time. And with the whole it will be slower thing, 32-bit wont make a difference. but jonny, your looking at at least 6 hours a build on that computer.. for ICS. GB wouldn't take as long.

I know tvall is putting together something that has everything set up
As I installed with wubi but only shows 17 gb of space:banghead:
I'm going to have to partition my hard drive
$21.19 well spent I'm mad:banghead:

Grab a 250GB usb hard drive and save yourself the headache of having extremely limited space.

Also, I know hp does this, idk about other manufacturers. They partitioned my drive in 4 primary partitions (C for data, D for hp tools, one for recovery, and I forget the last one)and since you can only have 4 primary partitions, I couldn't add a partition and dual boot ubuntu. I need to burn a recovery image to a cd and delete that partition. Having an external drive makes things a lot easier.

I used WUBI and after installing & syncing the repos I had 16 or 17 gb left. Maybe you did something wrong..

Did not know this, everywhere I read about building ICS/JB/CM9/CMX said that building Android required a 64-bit host OS. It's great to know that this isn't the case though.

Gingerbread required 64bit at first, but that was easy to change. I think the same was true of ics for a while. No idea for jellybean ...

I am trying to set up my environment. I installed all of the necessary packages. I created the bin and andoid/system directories. I ran the following code however after several hours of downloading it exits sync due to errors. Is anyone having trouble syncing with cyanogenmod repo? Any suggestions?

Code:
sudo curl https://dl-ssl.google.com/dl/googlesource/git-repo/repo > /bin/repo
chmod a+x ~/bin/repo

Code:
repo init -u git://github.com/CyanogenMod/android.git -b jellybean
repo sync -j16

There could be issues with the CM repo at the moment.. It happens from time to time...

Here is another handy guide with a great breakdown of setting up your build environment. Its based on the Galaxy Nexus but its still very universal when it comes to setup.

[h=3][GUIDE][Ubuntu] Compiling Android from Source[/h]

After "chmod a+x ~/bin/repo" make sure you restart your system.
If it error's out just keep repo sync'ing until it completes.

Thanks all. I was able to sync the CM repo.

After you run the following command, which combo works best for VM/LS-670?

Code:
. build/envsetup.sh
lunch

I think if I remember right now you'll have to pull in the iho device folders. It's been a while since I tried though.

The LG Android Coding github repository contains thunderc repositories for jellybean and ics :-)
