Leaving Apple for the World of Android

I have made the switch to Android with the Samsung Infuse. I had an iPhone 3Gs and had a true love/hate for it. My wife is sticking with her iPhone and so is my daughter. They think I am making a mistake. I hope I am not.

I was tired of all the hype for the iPhone 5 that is still just a rumor about what it will be like and when it will be out.

So far I like my phone. I have much to learn and not crazy about having to re-buy my apps if they are available. I am in the middle of my 30-day trial and so far I give the phone a THUMBS UP!!

Does anyone know if for certain that the Infuse will be getting the gingerbread update? I see that it's boing shipped to Canada with it. Also is the choice up to the cell carrier on whether or not the phones get the updates?

II was tired of all the hype for the iPhone 5 that is still just a rumor about what it will be like and when it will be out.

I am a heavy Mac user and read a lot about Macs. I was also an iPhone 3G user for nearly 2.5 years. Like you, I also got tired of the hype of what might become of the iPhone 5. The more I read, the more I realized what will likely happen is just a small increment. Apple is not very firm if it'll even adopt 4G for the next iPhone iteration. Another thing I got tired of is Apple's control of the device. I like being able to do some customization, and the Infuse is great for that. I have had my Infuse now for a month and don't regret having made the switch at all. Yes, I had to buy no more than a handful of apps I had in the iPhone, but it is all worth it.

I am also new from ios.

The only things I really miss are the fast app switching, Netflix, and good photomanipulation apps.

I miss my tiltshift generator damn it!

I do not miss iTunes, not being able to make playlist or photoalbums on the device itself.

I am 10 days into my 30 day trial and so far I like the phone better than my iphone 4, but I'm gettting complaints from people about the quality of the calls. Has anyone else noticed this? Maybe my phone is defective.

I've said it before the infuse is the best I've ever owned. I was using all the iPhones before as well and this thing blows them out of the water.

I still have my iPhone 4, and I also have a Captivate (I like reading how people enjoy other models I'm interested in). Sometimes I switch the sims and use the Apple for certain things, like long drives...where the Apple excels in bluetooth voice commands. The only thing I can say about call quality is the iPhone drops at least one call a day, my Samsung doesn't. Other than that, I don't notice any difference.

If you're coming from iOS, like I did from a Blackberry before that...and you like tinkering with the cusomization, you should love Android. I do.

Since I updated my iPhone to 4.3, the battery life is about on par with my android (8 hour job today, sent about 20-30 texts and 2 15 minute calls, I was at 63% when I got home. I was at 88% after 2 texts and one of those phone calls. That's actually worse than my Cappy.

Although I honestly don't use a whole slew of apps (Facebook, BB mobile, Ebay, a photo editor, etc), or play games, I found I actually get fewer app crashes on the Android as well. Both have great screens (iPhone has better resolution when viewing fine text on the net, Android is better for pics and videos with great colors). For me it's a better solution, hope you enjoy yours...

My experience has been exactly the opposite. Callers have no complaints, and as for me, I actually hear them better. Could you accidentally be partially covering the microphone?

So I've had my Infuse for a week and all I can say is that I love it. The screen makes watching movies on my lunch break much more enjoyable. It does freeze up on my a few times. Also hat that my Pandora widget stops working after I reset the phone.

I replaced my iPhone 3gs for the Infuse also. I love it so far and the call quality is excellent. Can't believe how beautiful the screen is on this phone.

The Infuse is a monster, but it is a touch buggy, and the battery isn't very good. I've tried the stock time, and infused 1.5, and neither has proved to be better than the other. Still, android is a beast of an operating system. I plan on keeping my 3 horse stable of phones, and utilizing them for their strengths. We really live in a world where each of the three main smartphone OS's are well suited for different things.

I just made the jump as well. Came from an iPhone 4. The amount of customizations in individual apps, is amazing. I haven't even looked at customization as a whole yet. I never realized how limited the iPhone is/was until i got my infuse today.

Did you calibrate the new rom (Infused)?

After flashing a new rom, you should delete the batterystats file, then give the device about 3 days to calibrate to the rom. After this, you should experience good battery life with Infused 1.5.

Is that really needed though? I just installed the Infused ROM and have noticed a wonderful increase already without deleting that file. If you delete it, does it somehow get back on there? Oh and btw........................................................

Ditto on the jump from IOS(3GS). I'm really enjoying the ability to take control of my Infuse the way I want to. The IPhone is has a great reputation for it's easy to use interface(my wife is loving my old 3GS), but is way too restrictive for my tastes. Glad I made the switch, no regrets!

The only regret I have is the wifi reception is very weak when compared to the iPhone... If you still have your 3GS just turn on the wifi and will quickly grab near and far away signals with full reception. The Infuse will not. Just do a side by side and you will see how superior the 3GS wifi reception is.

I'm not so sure about that. The Infuse does seem to have weaker signals than the iPhone 3gs/4 when displaying the strength in the status bar; however, in terms of actual speed, the infuse is as fast, if not the fastest, of the three devices despite the weaker signal strength display.

I followed the instructions in the infused rom thread on xda. I don't believe it specified that you should clear the battery stats. I installed bionix infinity, and cleared the battery stats, and it is much better.

I just moved from an iPhone 4 to the Infuse! So far the only thing I really miss is the button I had previously thought was dumb.... the silent button on the side. It was great to just flip that.

Now it's just a matter of getting it to sync to exchange (it's hosted not in my office) and personalizing it. I got it off of ebay since I was still in contract. They did however add 1 year from yesterday to my contract.... No that I plan on leaving, I just want to be able to switch phones when I see fit.

So far it's all straight forward and I have no regrets. ( I did sell 3 old iPhones to fund this, still have the 4 and my wifes 3Gs).

I do hate Apple for all of the restrictions. It was a painful process though, the Rep at the ATT store gave me a new sim, put in the wrong EINE (whatever) number and didn't switch me to the 4G data so nothing worked the first day but since I set up WIFI when I got home I didn't notice until the next day! It's all set now.
