If I do port my Verizon #, will I still receive my texts that people send to my #?

Yes. The texts go to your phone number not the phone model. By the way, if you use Hangouts with Fi you can get your SMS texts as well as Hangouts messages on all of your devices, not just your phone.

I've been considering switching to Project Fi from Verizon, but my main concern is coverage, at home and at work. We only get Verizon inside office building, my previous T-Mobile phone had zero bars at the office.
I finally decided to try Project Fi before porting my Verizon phone number. So i signed up for Fi and will try the sim card with random phone number they'll assign for a few days, see how the coverage is on my 6P. If all good, hoping to ditch verizon. But i have a feeling the Fi coverage won't match Verizon's

Well, Fi does have roaming coverage with Verizon thanks to US Cellular, so if T-Mobile, Sprint and US all fail to give you native coverage at the office, you'd at least still get some coverage.

FYI, if you do leave verizon for fi, get a free data only sim card for your Verizon phone. It should be unlocked. I got one for my S7 edge and it works perfectly. You'll have to try it out on your own device though. Remember that with a data only sim installed, you cannot make calls with your phone dialer. BUT if you have Google hangouts Dialer installed, you can by using hangout dialer. . Its great.

That's how we switched to Fi. Got a new number and then when we were sure it was going to be good for us we ported our numbers then. Took less than 5 minutes for the numbers to port to our 6P's.

Hey guys, I didn't want to start a new post since this was already created. I have another question around this topic here. I'm on Verizon now and my contract ends literally next week. I want to switch to fi and port my numbers with 2 other people on the plan to fi. I was just wondering nothing will be effected since i'm not out of contract with verizon until next week ? I know in experience ordering a fi phone and sim cards take a week or so, so I figured maybe I can order it now. Nobody else plan is still on contract except me.

You can order the phone and SIM any time, Verizon won't know you're cancelling service until you initiate the phone number port, which won't happen until you activate your Fi service.

Then at least you won't have to give up some features you may have gotten used to with Google Voice. If you do have Google Voice you'll lose that number by transferring your Verizon number

I moved my Google voice number to a different Gmail account to retain it. Then will port my Verizon number to Fi.

I think it should work and allow me to use Voice on my tablet.

It will, I did the EXACT same thing. It WON'T allow you to forward your Fi number to GV though.

I switched from Verizon to Project Fi right before December 2016 and have not received any more updates... security or 7.1
Plus my Nexus 6p still shows the Verizon build..

I just want to know what is the problem ?

Google fi sounds like an awesome thing having Sprint and T-Mobile coverage both would be perfect for me. However I am happy with Sprint and I don't really want to give all my money to Google every month. I think they need to be a search engine and that's it that's just me though also think it could be cheaper but maybe that's just me but if you use 3 gigabytes of data does $50 a month might as well just go to Sprint Direct. They should make their prices a little bit lower but I like they only charge you for what you use more than anything I think it's a really awesome idea I would always be checking my phone to see whose coverage is stronger T-Mobile or Sprint Wareham just see so I might get one just for that reason

Fi is not just Sprint and TMO, it includes US Cellular. I've been on Fi for just over a year now and I use mainly Sprint and TMO but I do occasionally get USCC.

Using Signal Spy or FiSwitcher you will always know which service you are on and be able to manually switch carriers if you need to. They will also give you a history to refer to if necessary.
