Now that some people have them in their hands, and my buddy just got his. Waiting for mine to come..

It sure looks like by the top "verizon" logo there are two areas where there could be an LED notification light.

I know one is probably a proximity sensor, but can anyone confirm via speccs or use if there is a notification light??

It was posted in another thread that there are 2 proximity sensors and a light sensor. That is actually incorrect. There is 1 proximity sensor, a light sensor, and a notification LED.

No notification light. I'm using the NoLED app as a replacement. Still getting it configured how I want it, but seems good enough.

No there is no LED notification. I think Epic is the only Galaxy S device with LED notification.

I am sitting here staring at one, and it really looks like there should be one..maybe it is indeed 2 proximity sensors..I hear what your saying Cory, but we have sent multiple emails to it and it doesn't light up.....

Crap, I'm sorry then. I was basing it off my experience with the Epic. I should shut my fat mouth until I get the phone I guess :p

:) its all good..I am really surprised that there is not one. Phone looks awesome , really does, and mine just arrived.

But I am a little bummed that there is not one its an easy way to tell if you have a message of sorts waiting. I understand NO LED, but I wonder if that hurts the phones screen in the long run...

I am too. That seems downright ridiculous. Kind of like my Droid X not showing an indicator light as it's charging. I don't understand the logic of that.

I plan on replacing this phone in the next 18 months anyway. If a blinking light (which I'm pretty sure you can set to a random location) screws my screen up in 18 months, someone at Samsung should get their butt kicked. If I had to use this thing for 3-4 years I'd be hesitant, but at the worst I use my Assurion or whatever and get a replacement.

I believe the latest iteration of NoLED moves the pixels around the screen so that the same pixels aren't used constantly.

Yes it does Xliderrider, but to be honest I am not sure if it will notify you for all email accounts besides your google. For example I have a Touchdown account and another POP account.

But in the settings for NOLED under email it just says google..

Yep, same problem I'm running into.

hmm.. I'm thinking I might have to create a dummy gmail account to forward all of my work email to, in the meantime. I really don't want to have to do that. :(

Is there a minimal battery life impact to NoLED? I get that the nature of OLED is to only energize the pixels that are lit, but there could still be a lot of overhead in the power circuit for the screen, as well as the GPU which is still used even though the pixels are of minimal complexity... Just wondering if there are any measurements on this.

I actually emailed the dev on this and he quickly returned my email (which is always so nice, and makes me want to donate/support an app).

He said under "other" is where you need to go, to quote the email from the dev:

"For all other types of notifications, please visit NoLED and read the section about "Other" notifications."

Yeah, I'm testing that now. ::fingers crossed::

Well, it did get "other" notifications to work, but I have to play a sound to do it. I can't trick it, by having it play a sound while the volume is at zero.. So, looks like I'm going to have to record an actual media file of silence, and throw it in /sdcard/sd/media/audio/notifications.

Fun. At least it will work though.

I tried the making a sound of dead air and it is still not working for me. I can't get yahoo or Touchdown to work. :(

Unfortunately I feel NoLED looks a little tacky. Is there any possibility they're going to fix this, or are we just not going to get an LED light? That is honestly my one major disappointment with this phone (but it's a small price to pay, I suppose).
