LED Notification?

Just out of curiosity, why do you guys think they didn't pun an LED in this phone? It seems like that should be a standard feature in a smartphone. It was almost a deal breaker for me, but the phone has more positives to out-weigh the lack of a message indicator.

Coming from a storm2 with berrybuzz (different colored LED notifications) it is very difficult to adjust. I can't believe there isn't LED on this thing!! :(

yeah, I'm not sure how they could release such a great phone without a notification led considering pretty much every other brand has it. Heck even the Epic 4G has one. The lack of led and the backlight on the soft touch keys are pretty much my only complaints.

Anyone try and add a sound to system/media/audio/notifications? I see that the noled works fine with a sound that is in that folder but it wont trigger for a sound in /sdcard/media/....

I use quick profiles but if you set the notification for 0% or 10%, it wont trigger either. Works ok on 20% but that is too loud for my work environment.

I have a 20 second clip that I recorded with the voice recorder of silence. I tried putting this in sdcard/media/... but it did not work. I wonder if I put this in system/media/... if it would work?

Any issue with adding a file to the system folder? Might need to put CM recovery on first ...

Thanks

You wouldn't need to put CWM on it first, you could root it that one time (rage.bin exploit), or just "permanently" root it, and that will certainly allow you to copy the file to /system/media/whatever.. If NoLED watches /system/media is it claims, your "silence" media file should work no problem.

I am rooted already so that is not a problem but I am just leary of modifying the system files/folders. With CWM, I can create an image to save my butt :)

I recorded with the phone and had to convert the .amr file to a .mp3. Does the file type matter?

I think all the system media (audio at least) is .ogg. might want to stick with that to be safe.

You won't mess anything up by adding a file to the device. Problems can occur when changing/deleting existing files. If adding CWM makes you feel safer, by all means, do it! :)

alright, can I use root explorer to copy a file from my sd card to the system media folder? I try it but afterwards, I don't see the file. There is a message that pops up but it is too fast to read.

Sometimes when I have the USB attached and mounted it unmounts on its own. Do I have to enable R/O or R/W to add a file to the system folder?

Thanks

Well root explorer will not copy this file to the system/../notifications folder.

I even resorted to ADB and trying to push the file to the folder. I keep getting a no permission error. I can do adb devices, adb shell ... get su access but once I try to push a file it it errors out saying I don't have permission.

Could there be a problem with my root? I used the 1 click method on the site.

ok, after taking the Fascinate update and re-rooting, I finally got my white noise file into the system folder. Thanks Brandon for your ADB help.

I had some success. I am able to get Touchdown to trigger the NoLed lights as long as I have the "quiet" sound selected inside of Touchdown. Basically means that I would have to have my exchange e-mail on vibrate at all times. This I can live with.

Yahoo was still a no go as the quiet file did not trigger a screen notification.

So all in all, it was a partial success. You can use NoLed to get a "LED" notification with Touchdown, Gmail, handcent, and missed calls. Maybe the app will get enhanced at some point to include others...

I was very resistant to trying NoLED...it just didn't sound as nice and polished as what I was used to with the Blackberry. But to be honest with you all...it's a nice compromise. Now I can still have a visual notification which I dearly missed. I use my power button as my dismiss button and that way I can go straight to the notification or I can just let the screen turn back off.

Anybody have any issues with NoLED not working right or working for awhile and then stopping? I can't live without notifications and sometime this doesn't work right - I will have to push the power button and then the home softkey to get to the lockscreen or it just stops working completely

Yes, I've had that issue. I don't dislike many things about the Fascinate, but this particular oversight (not having a physical LED) is really driving me nuts.

I guess we are positive that both those sensors are proximity sensors right?

I also have had this problem with Noled. I would think not with all the fascinates out there someone would either come up with a better program or Noled would be updated.

I would so love to hear the rationale for not putting one in.

Has anyone considered trying to make the flash on the back work as an indicator light? I mean other devices have dimmer settings for the flash light, why can't someone write a program to make the flash...well...flash when you have a message or missed call?

I am not smart enough to find a way-but there has to be a way right?

The one thing I love about the NoLed app, is that when you get a notification you can wake your screen up by pressing the home key. Don't have to press the side key power button anymore.
