He makes a couple of interesting points, but also has on rose-colored glasses and makes one very silly assumption based on a vague tweet (since explained) by @evleaks. HP did Palm no favors, certainly, but Palm was already mortally wounded when Verizon stabbed them in the back with the Pre. I think Palm could have recovered some had HP taken a completely hands off approach, but this is HP we're talking about and that was never going to happen (especially back then).
As for Motorola and Lenovo? Well, we're starting to see what the "new" Moto is doing, and I for one am skeptical. This is where his comparisons to Palm and HP take on foreboding overtones, and it's an interesting if morbid thought exercise. But then he goes and puts in some crazy over-reaction to a tweet ("Goodbye Moto X!" Oh no, everything is in question now! WHAT DOES IT MEAN?!) and now I'm just kind of rolling my eyes at the whole comparison.
The new Moto is not the old Motorola, that much is very clear now. Will it survive? I guess we'll see how well the new Moto Gs and Moto Zs work out. They're not going to be the dumpster fire that was HP's Pre product line, but my expectations are pretty low right now.
