Let me post a question...I currently have insurance on my S8+ through AT&T. Recently, I bought an AT&T Note 8 through SAMSUNG. When the new phone arrives, I plan to put my SIM card in. Since it is new and has not been activated before, will the insurance transfer to the new Note 8?

Does anyone know for sure? I suspect since the phone will be an AT&T phone and had never been registered, that the insurance would kick over automatically. Clearly this would not work for a used phone because you would have idiots committing insurance fraud and raising honest folks rates.

If you have the Insurance 3 Pack for $34.99 it doesn't matter what phone it is on. On the single $8.99 insurance it's tied to the phone.

Att insurance is a joke. I would cancel it and got to one of these 3rd part companies that do not have the $250 deductible.

the problem with that is the others cover either theft, damage, and other things, but not loss so you still need the insurance from the carrier. otoh the warranties (ST, etc.) don't cover loss or theft... nice way to make us all pay for more insurance. I have kept the carrier insurance for the loss and signed up for worth for the damage and theft (50 deductible) because it is less expensive than ST for both deductible and price. hate to double-dip that way, but not paying $250 for a screen, and if I need to replace it because I lose it, I need the carrier coverage.

We recently had a claim for a broken screen on an S7 Edge. I believe it was just $100 or so. Where in the world are you guys coming up with $250 deduct for a broken screen???

We're all grownups for the most part here. What adult actually loses a $1000 smarthphone? I know things happen, but I find it extremely hard on today's connected world that I would lose my Note8. To each their own, but I agree on the 3rd party plans. Carrier plans are ridiculous now. I just bought a Squaretrade plan for $129 for 2 years of coverage and $99 deductible. I never even felt the need for insurance before because the plan costs and deductibles through carriers were cost prohibitive to me once their deductibles jumped up. But these newer phones are just too expensive now to risk damage. I think the 3rd party companies offer a better compromise for many.

Note 8 is Tier D

Equipment Standard Replacement Deductible Declining Deductible
6 months – 12 months - 12 months or more
Tier A $25 $18 $12
Tier B $75 $56 $37
Tier C $150 $112 $75
Tier D $225 $168 $112
Tier E $299 $224 $149

I am not worried about losing my note 8,but I am worried about someone stealing it.

There $89 screen repair is only available in certain areas and if you are not in that area the only option you have is to do the 225 deductable. I just had to do it on my S7 edge earlier this year. With my note I switched to Worth Ave grp insurance.

Must be a heavy claim user then. I didn't make a claim for over a year with my iPhone 7 and it was only $75 when I did it.

Worth Ave grp insurance also only covers up to $899. The note is retail for at least $950. It also doesn't let you pay monthly if you select more than 1 years worth of coverage for some reason..

From what I read, your deduct is based on how often you make a claim (or lack of). However, this debate is going a bit outside of my original question LOL. Can anyone else confirm the insurance follows the number (AKA, sim card)?

It only follows if you have the 3 Pack. The 3 Pack can be any device at any given time. The other 2 insurances are device only so you'll need to update it with the carrier if you already pay for it.

if you didn't pay $950 then you're covered. I paid $810, or will technically, over the life of my agreement. ymmv. I don't pay full price ever unless no other options, and even then I have credits each month bringing it down to $436.00 total. if I have to replace it, I'm covered.

It says I have 2 devices on the Next Installment for $949.99 financed. Guess if I go with them I lose $100. $50 deductible and $50 payment. So if they cut me a check for $899 I still have to pay for the new phone :(

Right? My S7E claim on AT&T was 112. They have declining deductible. Since I'd never used it, I got 1/2 off. So those paying the full 250 must used the insurance within a year. The bonus with that is I received a new s8 as a replacement.
