Let VZW replace my 3rd bad Droid X with Refurb Thunderbolt?

The BH6X is the "Extended Battery" offered for the Droid X (It ships with a battery door). I would not attempt to use the stock battery door with the "extended battery" as it potentially could damage the screen.

Well, regardless, it was the Atrix battery before it was being offered as the extended for the DroidX.

I have both the Atrix and the DroidX..

I would just suggest putting the BH5X back in and letting Verizon deal with it. They can blame anything on non-standard bs if you use products that weren't in the original box.

I got my BH6X for the DX right here at Android Central and it did not come with a replacement door. Nor do I see a replacement door for this battery available separately.

The BH6X came out in August of 2010 for the Droid X with a custom battery door to accomodate the extra 1mm added thickness; Well before the Atrix came out. It so happens the Atrix also is using the BH6X battery.

This is the original post announcing the battery: Here

Post #40 warns to make sure you use "New" supplied battery cover:

To those that thinking of using the stock cover with the extended battery, I would advise you to think twice. The force (even though it may be slight) needed to push the stock cover onto the phone with the extended battery will transfer that force to the back of the phone and possibly damage the circuit board or even cause the screen to crack. One user stated that when they put the stock cover on with the extended battery that they noticed a "rainbow" effect on their screen. That's a sign of pressure being applied to the LCD screen on the phone. If you have an LCD flat screen on your PC, place your thumb on the screen and apply a little pressure on it, notice the "rainbow"?

This is a photo from Verizons website, if you order from Verizon they will send you the battery + cover. View attachment 12037

They should have supplied the door with battery. The prongs on the battery door are longer to accommodate the extra 1mm thickness. You potentially could damage the screen by putting extra pressure on it.

Edit: My apologies to the OP for steering into a different direction from your original question. Just wanted correct info!

Um.. My point stands, it was the Atrix battery before it was being offered as the DroidX battery.

Atrix was designed and in QC's hands before it was being offered as the DroidX battery.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion.

So Aug/2010 the BH6X was being offered as an extended battery for the DroidX, the Atrix released in what, Feburary of this year?

Do you think the hardware of the Atrix was using a different battery prior to Aug/2010?

How long does it take a phone to get released from design, running through production, testing, QC'ing and in people's hands? 8-10 months? maybe 1 year?

let's say 8-10 months just for the sake of argument. This means that the Atrix was using BH6X in at least June of 2010, a good 2-4 months before the BH6X was advertised for the DroidX.

Anyway, my whole point is that just put the battery that came in the box back in the DX when you send it in. Verizon could easily say "This isnt the battery that shipped with the device.." and charge you full retail for your warranty replacement. It's not out of the realm of possibility.

The Thunderbolt can still be used in a 3G area if the OP isn't in 4G. I think he should take Verizon's offer of replacing with the TB. I had numerous issues with BB and retention allowed me to have the original Incredible at that time..........well over 6 months ago. I am very pleased. I have played with the TB and so far my choice when I upgrade. No phone is perfect and not liking Moto products and really like HTC, will be the TB. Also a nice feature on the TB even in 3G can talk and use data at the same time !

I might go with the thunderbolt, but I would go down to the store and really play with one first. I have a DX and my wife has a DInc and I really don't like how it is set-up (meaning sense). I guess I am just use to the X but the sense takes a little getting use to. There are somethings I like better, but I have a hard time navigating the menus. I personally wouldn't go with an htc phone coming from the DX, but if it doesn't use an upgrade I would consider it if you are in a 4G area. My wife and I got our phones on the same day and we would find something cool on one and couldn't find where the similar function was on the other phone. Like I said just go and play with one to see if you like it.

I dont believe all of Verizon's towers support this feature. You have to be on a tower that supports CDMA eHRPD (I could be wrong)

I have had two bad/failed replacement Droid X phones under warranty here and Verizon offered to possibly replace my DX with refurbed Thunderbolt.:

I can't believe they even offered to give you something different. I'm on my 3rd Droid X and it locked up out of the box.

I'd go for the Thunderbolt for the most important reason of all; it isn't a Motorola.

When it comes to Motorola phones, problems are to be expected.

I've had my Droid X for almost a year with no problems. I've had previous Moto phones in the past (pre-smartphone days) and no problems up through and including the StarTac. Since then, this Droid has been only the second Smartphone I've had where I have NOT had problems with it - no problems with my first Smartphone, a Kyocera 7135 (PalmOS), but I've had issued with two different Treo models, iPhone 3G, and the Blackberry Storm (I went through 6 of those within 14 months!).

I love my Droid X and the only reason I want something else is because that "something else" is newer (Bionic, RAZR, etc).

As for the TBolt, from all accounts I've heard, it's a lousy phone. It's underpowered in all senses of the word - the CPU is underpowered for the demand on it, and the battery is too small to keep it going all day, especially if you are NOT in an LTE coverage area, which is still most of the country.
