I'm not sure its that easy to get the battery replaced under LGs warranty if it falls within normal degradation. You would have better luck with carrier or third party warranties but then you would probably end up with a refurb.

Yes I would read the T&Cs of the extended warranty, it is bound to have some "exclusions". As far as I know batteries usually fall under general wear and tear, so unless it can be proven to have failed prematurely you are usually out of luck.
