LG and Google announce the Nexus 4, 8GB $299

Ok.....So this is pentaband from the Google site. It'll work for ATT and T-Mo 4G HSPA+ networks. Unfortunately, HSPA 21 rly Google? Ugh I hate to take that hit in speeds getting rid of my S3 but bleh, gonna have to.

I am too excited with all those details. $350 for nexus 4 is a definite buy for me.
wish Nexus 10 16Gb was $350.... oh well, its still a buy for me.

Coming later usually means coming never with Google. Who knows what'll happen to it but at $350 I'm willing to be an early adopter and then rebuy for a white later on if it ends up coming out.

I am not worried the Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus came in white in spring time after there winter launch. I expect same from Google with N4 or earlier and maybe through the play store as well. Coming later usually means never is little cynical don't you...what has Google in your terms "coming later usually means never"? I agree to extent what you said with going coming later usually means much later with what I went through pre-ordering the N7.

Looking at the specs and pictures on the play store, where's this SlimPort HDMI ? Excuse my ignorance I only see the mico-usb port at the bottom.

Are they both in the same port?

Well the other negative is that Google didn't even announce a white version. So I find that a little odd. I was pretty excited when I saw the white at the carphone warehouse but it might of just been too good to be true. We'll see but its a shame they don't have any info at all on a white version.

actually you should blame AT&T.... there network does not support HSPA+ 42, They only support up to +21, therefore Google is just making it work for all carriers.

and you can blame Tmobile for no LTE, once Tmo get LTE im sure we will finally see a nexus with it.

Dollar for dollar, the best smartphone available--and it's not even close.

They didn't have any info out for the white NS and GN until leaks hit early February after their launch. Then still nothing was official until April. Again I am not worried just hope I don't have to wait so long. A December release for white N4 would be nice touch before XMAS would be a nice surprise.

But T-Mo is their partner at launch so you'd think they would support that crowd a bit better. Oh well, not too huge of a deal for me, I don't rly need 20 megs down to use a phone.

I'd buy myself that Christmas present. Would be the first white Christmas I'll see in Florida!!!! Make it happen Google.

It looks like a great device. I'll admit LTE would have been nice but I'm glad google it's avoiding any carrier affiliation with the nexus 4. I'm on AT&T and I get excellent hspa + speeds as high as 10 mbps in my area so the lack of LTE is not a big deal. I'm also glad google is selling the nexus 4 through the Google play store unlike last year's nexus which was sold initially by third party vendors for as high as $700. This was the main reason why I didn't get a galaxy nexus last year because it was too expensive. I'm going to get a 16 gb model and $349 is a bargain no matter how you put it. Lack of micro sd card and internal battery is a non issue for me, it may be a deal breaker for some but absolutely not for me.

T-Mobile is selling them, on-contract. Hardly avoiding all carrier affiliation.

T-Mobile doesn't have an exclusive though - if that's what you're getting at.

Well I could be wrong but it looks like T-Mobile is selling the same version that is in the store. So they will have no impact on what Google can and do with the phone, Google simply gives them the phone and T-Mo subsidizes it for its customers. I could be wrong on that though. Hard to say until we actually see what they are selling.

This is ideal to me other than I'd like a slightly smaller screen, biggest screen I've had is 4" on my Atrix so I'm a bit worried. Maybe it can convert me though.

The only bad part is now I'm gonna have to cut back on my bar tabs so I can afford to upgrade on my measly college student budget... lol

Just because T-Mobile is selling them on contract, doesn't mean Google is working with T-Mobile. Nexus devices work on all carrier frequencies.

IIRC, the subsidized Nexus One that T-Mobile sold wasn't SIM-locked. I'd imagine that the Nexus 4 would follow that same route.

T-Mobile has to be getting their supply from somewhere, right?

We'll see....I'm thinking what Google did to keep cost down was simply make one device to sell and ship where it pleases. While the GN had iirc 7 ish different versions? Not totally sure about that.

By affiliation I think he means things like, T-Mo needing to push out updates, the ability to lock Google Wallet, and possibly putting their dumb logo on it? That's what I got out of it anyway and it seems like this won't be the case with this version.

Like you and I T-Mobile is buying them from Google and selling them at a subsidized price. The Nexus 4 ins't a T-Mobile exclusive and Google isn't going to bend backwards to make any special features or exceptions for T-Mobile.
