LG E460 not communicating with pc during flash process

I have an LG E460 L5 that is stuck on the Orange provider logo. I have managed to get the phone in download mode and tried numerous different ways to flash the phone. I have installed the necessary drivers and the phone is recognised by the LG Update Tool because it displays the model number. Whichever method I use either online or offline fix the program always stops when it get to the actual flashing process. It normally stops at 5% and I get messages saying the phone is not communicating. I have run out of ideas now and would appreciate any help. Thank you.
