I just got this G2 in a trade and man this thing is horrible! It worked well at first(of course) and now every time I try and turn it on it turns off...I can try it like 30x and it won't let me unlock the phone without turning off...knock on doesn't even work but knock off does....I found that I can unlock the phone by pressing the power key and then quickly pushing volume up before the screen turns itself off...please can anyone help? I already turned off the view case thing and took off my lock screen. Also tried to remove battery factory reset and all that. Thank you in advance.

Agree with the post above. Was this trade with a friend/someone you know or was it online like on Craigslist. Sounds to me like they scammed you. They knew there phone was defective and traded for the S4. Even though most G2 owners talk about how superior it is to the S4...
Try a factory reset in recovery, if that doesn't work, you're out of luck :(

Re: Please Help!

It certainly doesn't sound like it's working correctly. Factory reset is probably your only hope (just in case the previous owner had messed it up somehow).

It may also be possible that he's tried to flash a different version of Android and fouled up, so re - flashing to stock may be a last resort

Re: Please Help!

I just got this G2 in a trade

How reputable was the person you traded with? Could be the reason why he/she traded was because they had major issues with the phone.

You don't mention how long you've had the before it started this.

Re: Please Help!

Yeah guys I agree I believe this was a scam...I've done many trades before and had a funny feeling about this one but went with it anyway. Gonna do another wipe and see how it goes. Also, could it be the sim card causing the problem? Its a used one I had in my HTC one a while back.

I doubt it could be the sim card's fault because it doesn't relates to your phone not being able to unlock. Sounds like a hardware issue to me but can't possibly rule that out.

Was this online? Craigslist? Swappa?

Re: Please Help!

It was craigslist(I know I shouldn't have). I think I found the problem. Its the Proximity sensor. If I wake the phone it turns itself off....but, if I wipe my hand on the sensor then it will turn on and knock on works. Same thing with calls. If I move the phone away from my ear, the screen stays black. If I wipe the sensor it turns on again.

I actually just traded last night. As for how reputable, he was a stranger to me. I believe he did con me and he knew of this issue and so that's why he traded. I'm stuck now because I want to trade this phone, but don't wanna be like the other dude and give someone a defected phone. Btw I traded a Moto X for this G2.

I'm sure someone would be willing to repair it. Anyway, good luck. Sorry it didn't work :-\

What about the manufacture warranty? You're within the 1 year time frame

It's worth a shot? The phone is less than a year old. Send LG email and ask them to stand behind their product. Long as the damage is not be physical.

Samsung did this for me when I was having issues with my daughters s3

Proximity sensor. Make sure it is clean. Make sure you don't block it when turning on. Make sure there is not a screen protector covering it.

Edit: I missed the post above where you know this. Yeah, call LG and see if they'll fix it.
