In the event it is in my pocket, I don't like it turning itself on. And the screen drivers being constantly awake must drain battery?

On my G2 you can turn off "Knock On" under gestures. I don't have the G3 yet but would assume its in the same place.

A few people say that's not the case, but I'm not going to be sure until I use it haha

I believe you actually have to tap the screen with your finger. It won't turn on in your pocket

I don't see an option on the ATT G3. But, yeah. I've been using Knock On and then Knock Code for a long time now, and the G2 and G3 still have some of the best battery life out there. Wouldn't worry about it if I were you.

I found the answer by googling it but for everybody who can't find the answer this what you do:

Dial this fake phone number: 3845#*850# if your phone model number is 850. If it is something like 855 then replace it with 855, etc.

Then, a hidden settings menu comes up and at the bottom is the option to turn off knock on.
