LG G3 Runtime Dalvik or ART?

Random freezes and battery pull issues most likely some 3rd party apps causing a conflict under ART. By the time L comes out those developers will have to resolve them. Fortunately the only conflict I have is with casting.

Yea it snuck up on me. Art caused random freezes bit dalvic is solid

One of the first things I did was switch to ART when I got my G3. The main reason was for improved battery life. I haven't noticed any issues on my AT&T model after two weeks of using it

Sent from my LG-D850 using AC Forums mobile app

I have been using art on my sprint g3 and it seems to be running very well so far. Battery seems a little better nothing to brag about but seems a little better than it was on Dalvik. I also notice that it appears to be a touch more snappy going between apps and opening apps. But I will say that it seems to score very low on quadrant standard. Was scoring 23,586 on Dalvik and on art I score 13,500 don't know why that is if someone has a answer for that I would love to find out why.

When I had my Nexus 5 with T-Mobile, ART worked just fine, some rumors say that Android L will have ART as a default, just what I've read.. I'm still a little iffy as if I sbould use ART with my G3 With Verizon, maybe I should just wait till Android L

I was running ART (Sprint) for a few weeks, but I'm back to Dalvik after my phone starting freezing up.

I have read through many different links that it seems to be that the sprint version of the g3 is the only one that doesn't seem to have an issue on art runtime don't know exactly why but like I said I have noticed a pretty good difference in both performance and battery life. So I will stick with it until my phone starts to get miserable lol. Still love this phone, very glad I went with it.

How long have you had art on till u rooted? i changed to art today and 6 hours later while i was playing with zooper widget it froze, turned black screen and buttons wernt working so i had to remove the battery. if it does this again im going back to dalvik. Im not rooted by the way. I never had any issues with my nexus 5, hope they fix this soon.

Not all seem to be encountering issues with Art. The only issue I have is that my G3 is rooted and I'm running Xposed, and that is not compatible hence why I'm using dalvic.

But before I rooted it seemed to run on Art OK without any problems.

The differences in how ART works between carriers could be because each carrier puts in their own bloatware and makes their own changes outside of LG like disabling Qi Charging, etc. So because of those changes, they may not have fully tested under ART and it's buggy. On AT&T and I don't have an issue except I can't cast with my chromcast.

Well, I can't make that claim anymore... Phone was running mainly without issue until, this morning... Updated some apps the night before and this morning it hard froze on me... Power button ineffective and had to pull the battery. Get back from work, knock knock on the phone, goto home screen to open my whatsapp app and it froze again and had to pull the battery. I'm suspecting an update has now make the phone unstable... Not really sure if due to,having ART enabled. But I uninstalled some apps and will see if that resolves it. Bummer.

Personal experience is I enabled ART on my N4 and still running with no issues.

So first thing I did when I got my G3 was do factory reset out of box and set up phone, disable the AT&T bloat and enable ART. Phones been running without issue since. Lucky no battery pull/freezing issues or anything.

Tried it for a bit but found my Verizon G3 running warm....not sure why but the only thing I changed was Dalvik to ART.
Reverted back to Dalvik and phone temp went back to normal.

I couldn't resist and just switched her to ART.

*crosses fingers. LOL

EDIT: My first reaction was, wow! I noticed the improvement right away. Remember when I first got her, I posted there was some lag but after Nova Prime/Customizations I went away, it's so much smoother and like my S5 (also Bell) I'm sure Battery will also improve.

I switched to Art and noticed quicker battery drain, and slightly faster response. My deal breaker was that my Bluetooth wouldn't allow me to call someone by name. I switched back. I'm excited for Android L.

I played around with it, seems fine for general operations, it did break some apps I use. Specifically it made taking pictures with untappd not work which was a deal breaker for me.

I'm on Verizon. ART drained the battery very quickly. Don't know if it was switching to ART that did it, but my Android OS kept the phone awake for very extended periods of time. I did have some lag, and it did freeze once. It also ran very warm to hot. So back to Dalvic. Back to normal.

Uninstalled all the apps I didn't need after the second freeze and thought ok... until just now... hard freeze... battery pull.
Three times is all I can take... Back to Dalvik. :-\

I will confirm... I'm able to cast now with my G3 on Dalvik. So casting not working before was an ART issue.

It's been over 15 hours and no problems whatsoever!

I think my T-Mobile G3 was running ART out of the box.

I believe it's been mentioned before that ART isn't enabled by default. I believe even on Nexus devices that ART is not enabled by default because you must first enable the Developers Mode.

I think my T-Mobile G3 was running ART out of the box.

So I switched over to ART, and I appeared to have a snappier phone. The only game I really play on my phone at the moment is called Hues. This is a game I started playing on OS10 that had much smoother on my Z10. Switching to ART made this game as smooth or smoother, than it had been on my Z.

I read somewhere on these forums that switching to ART would turn off some animation settings, so I put my settings to 1 like they were before, and Hues stuttered worse than ever. I didn't give the animation setting time to settle, if that even matters, but I didn't really care to at the mloment, I just put the settings back at 0 and enjoying my snappier phone. :)

Only thing that keeps me from using ART is that Facebook will not work. I could sacrifice using the Facebook and use the mobile site but I've also heard of freezing and some instability. I'm not sure if the good outweighs the bad..
