LG G4: Farewell, it was an OK experience

I would offer that, currently, G4 charging seems very slow. My stock charger and cable typically give me 280mA with the screen on (and for car navigation, that's realistic). Meaning about 10 hours for a full charge, and barely raising the charge level in any reasonable amount of time.

So quick charging isn't really something we have at the moment, from what I've seen.

On the stock charger, screen on, Battery Widget typically reports about 3 minutes to gain 1%. That is not quick, in my book. Currently, it's showing me 12 minutes for 1%.

I really like the phone, no lag problems here. But charging seems extremely slow for me so far. I'm really hoping a software patch can fix this. Mine is Verizon.

But you mentioned you already have the quick chargers readily available for your house, office, etc?

I never unpacked the stock charger from my G4. I've been using the quick chargers I use from my Note 4, and they indeed charge very fast. About on par as my note 4. I can go from 20% to 100% in about 1.5 hours?

I returned my Verizon G4 and went back to my S6 Edge, mainly for the performance and battery issues. Hopefully with an update, many issues with this phone can be fixed.

I just wish I had the kind of money to jump from flagship to flagship like it seems y'all do.

But I guess it's short attention span theater.

You can keep your Verizon. I tried T-Mobile last year and they weren't very good. Jumped back to them from AT&T a couple months ago and have been very pleasantly surprised. To ignore the progress they've made in upgrading their network is ignorant. Of course they have more holes than Verizon and AT&T but they are quickly closing the gap. Their work is especially impressive here in Texas with the large number of rural areas we have.

I don't currently own any Quick Charge 2.0 chargers. I've ordered a home & car QC 2.0 set, which was supposed to arrive today, but didn't. Perhaps you're thinking of someone else? I just have a bunch of generic 2.1A chargers currently, plus a Samsung 1.0A, an old LG 0.7A, and my stock LG charger.

The 20->100% in 1.5 hours you saw, is that with the screen on, or off?

It makes absolutely no sense. I mean, what compels people to remove native features that people might enjoy? Especially when they have nothing at all to replace it with. I can understand if they had an app similar to Smart Settings that performed the same tasks and they wanted to push it in people's face, but no, nothing.

I am absolutely happy with my T-Mobile G4 and the service.

So am I. The network build-out making a huge difference compared to just a few years ago.

Mostly exchanges inside the 14 day window.

Looking around on the forums it seems to be carrier branded phones that have most of the issues. Specifically Verizon and T-Mobile. They seem to be doing a pretty good hack job on these phones thus ruining the experience for some of us who want to give the phone a try.
Verizon one is pretty stripped. I have used the h815 as well and it is better. Less touch screen problems but not as good as my note 4 or s6

I feel like I had the same experience as the OP. I was so pumped for this phone. Loved the g3 except for the poor screen brightness, sluggishness, and subpar battery, and I really thought this new iteration would rectify those issues. What I got instead was hit and miss at best. The battery would absolutely tank with just basic texting and lower screen brightness, I still had issues seeing the screen outdoors, and it would get spurts of unexplained lag I never experienced on the xperia z3 I had before it. Pretty disappointed overall. I kept it for a week and went back to my z3.

I have a few beefs with the phone but am holding out to see if the t-mobile update fixes any of it. If I were to return it I don't know what I'd get as I already sold my old Nexus 5

Nexus 6? No lag, no touch issues, pure android goodness. Plus it's $150 off now at $499 from the play store.

I think that a number of things will be improved over time with LG updates.

I think the main thing for me is getting the auto HDR a little more aggressive as it make the screen really dark at times which is slightly annoying although it can be addressed using the manual mode

AT&T....no lag issues that warrant a complaint, over-all, satisfied with the phone.....ESPECIALLY the camera! I will admit, that I'm missing my Note 4, but I'll give the G4 a bit longer, and see what happens.

This phone is straight up and down the best around. I have heating issues. Gonna return it and get a new one. In time you will see that you had the phone of the year. And if you think the G4 has issues just stroll thru the other flagship forums and you will see that the grass isn't always greener on the other side of the fence.

The heating and slow-charging are my issues with my G4 (the running warm contributes to reduced battery life, I believe, which does not really impress me at the moment). Otherwise I think it's great. I'm still within my 14 days.

I'm trying to decide between swapping it at Best Buy, or perhaps returning it for now and seeing how things play out after maybe a month. I don't know if I'd get another 14 day return period if I got a replacement from BB, or if that's it, and I'm stuck with the replacement. What if I'm stuck with the replacement, and that one runs hot too?

The alternate phone I'd pick, if I had to get something else, would be the S5. But there's a lot I like about the G4 over the S5. Faster processor with more cores, more RAM, more internal storage, bigger screen, better camera, etc. The benefits I see to the S5 are it's an established product, and it has a good reputation for battery life. But I don't know how the Lollipop upgrade is treating it.

S5? That's one of the worst phones ever. Prepare for the most laggy ride ever homie. I'm hoping you mean the S6.
