LG G4: Farewell, it was an OK experience

If we were to follow the recommendations posted throughout the forums not to buy this or that phone, based on members' bad experience of one particular specimen, we'd buy no phones at all. There are always duff specimens of all phones. They're only man-made things. Don't give up on them.

Man people who have the issues should fallow the steps giving here in the forums. They help out a lot.

I'll assume fallow is supposed to be follow. I can't speak for everyone, but I've tried everything and nothing has worked. Not only that, but owners of "flagship" caliber phones shouldn't have to do anything but turn the phone on for it to work the way it's supposed to.

I'm sorry you have issues with your phone. I have done these things to help out and don't have a thing wrong.

When you buy a top of the line phone you shouldn't have to look for this fix and that fix. And damnit when I tap the screen it should go to what I tapped.

You're right, and that's what happens for the vast majority of G4 owners. It sucks that some people got bum phones, but it happens with every manufacturer and carrier.

The only thing I felt was necessary was to switch to the google keyboard - other than that, my Canadian version of the g4 has been outstanding. Every other change or tweek I've done has been to improve on an already outstanding phone.

I have to agree with this :) Mine is Verizon, I'm happy with it overall.

Battery life is my biggest issue, and there are additional steps I can take to help with that.

But the taps situation is becoming more annoying with time. Three months after release, and the only solutions so far appear to be tricks that users have figured out to try and help with it. Though I did hear some users seeing much better taps performance after a recent update for the international model, I think it was (10F). I hope that's an official fix that's coming to everyone.

I can echo the battery part, for sure. I would love to see better performance. The touch screen I've had few issues with. Sure, I've had a few missed touches. I've had that with every phone. That being said, I don't think I've experienced this to the degree other people have. I'm sorry you guys got bad phones.

That was the part I neglected to mention, sorry. I am on my third G4 from Verizon. All were the same in terms of missed taps. The battery life on the first was worse, but I also had different/more apps installed on that one, so they may have been the culprit.

I do feel that less fiddling should be required on a flagship phone.

Don't misunderstand, I do like mine.

But I'd have to give some thought to whether I'd recommend it to a friend. It would be with some qualifiers/explanations, at least.

I've been on the forums for a while and I've seen one basic thing: A lot of the issues are caused by US carrier G4s.

I have had 2 G4s (for different reasons, none were faulty, I returned my plastic one within the time frame to get the leather backed one, which ironically came with a spare plastic back which I also love!), and both international. One from Germany and the other from France. They both worked perfectly. I haven't had a single issue. My battery lasts me ALL day (something my Samsungs couldn't after a few updates).

Expandable storage is awesome. I had it on my Note 4, now on my G4, and on my Nexus 6 I was really really missing it. Just from downloading my Google Music playlists it ate 1/2 my storage, and left me from the 32 gb model to about 10 free. Not enough for me. That's something that's OK short term, but in the long run, it's a pain to have to manage your space (especially when pictures and videos accumulate, and then the apps...).

Battery life, in my book, has been great. I can ALWAYS get through 1 day if I have decent coverage. Sometimes I use my device SO MUCH I have to charge it again in the middle of the day (after hitting 4 hours of SOT or similar) - then there are days that I don't touch my phone and it's at 94% after 12 hours.... I think standby time is fantastic.

I have yet to have any touch screen issues on either device, but I always see these issues on forums with US variants!

I really find it funny that you changed to a smaller screen, no expandable storage, smaller battery and unable to exchange it in a rush. For me, of course it's only my opinion, I think the S6 is a very big downgrade over the G4 in terms of usability over time. Not to mention after owning so many Samsung devices (see signature), I really do feel that they systematically slow down their devices with updates to get you to upgrade over time. I have owned a few Sony and LG, and I can say BY FAR the Samsungs slow down a lot A LOT sooner than Sony & LG devices.

Exact same boat. Great battery life just getting so annoyed with missed taps etc.

For some people Verizon is the only game in town - where TMo and Sprint are marginal at best and ATT doesn't match up.

To me it's like rent control in NYC, if you're lucky enough to have a grandfathered plan on Verizon then your cost can be reasonable. I have a grandfathered Family Plan with one feature phone, one smartphone with unlimited data, 700 any time minutes (which is everything except nights after 9 and before 7 and weekends from 9 PM Friday until 7 AM Monday, unlimited in network (other Verizon customers), text plan is $0.15/use (most texts are through Google Hangouts) all for $82/month including all taxes and fees. We rarely go over 350 minutes and I don't abuse the unlimited plan (semi retired with WiFi @ work and home) with only about 4-6 GBs/month. When you compare this to any other carrier it can't be beat and I'll hold on to it as long as I can (have gotten every upgrade for both my upgrades and my wife's (purchase for sale feature phones as backups) every year without losing my unlimited (see the Verizon unlimited thread for more details). Currently had to fall back to a GS4 and HTC One M7 due to some really bad luck with phones and the GS4 has been a lot more capable than I thought it would (especially coming from an LG G2). Planning to get a good look at all the phones out there with a pending 9/30 upgrade available.

Have you tried AirDroid for transferring data and Nero Backitup Free or Helium for making complete backups of everything?

Had mine for 3 months. Still hasn't skipped a beat.

Battery life seems to have hit the gutter, though. It used to be able to get over 4.5 hours of SOT. Now, I'd be lucky if it got 3.

Opera Max and Commandr seem to have taken up quite a bit of battery resources. Disabled them for now.

You should go to Sprint and get a quote from the cut your rate plan on half promotion. Your bill would be even cheaper.

I liked Commandr as well but ditched it because of battery.

Does me absolutely no good if the Sprint Service in my area sucks (which it does).
