So this isn't the best pic since I had a flashlight in one hand and the phone in the other. Very surprised to see this in my neighborhood.

Anyone know what it is?

Looks like a snake.

Sorry I couldn't help it. Hard to tell in that picture, does it have a round head or more of a triangle? If I found it pretty sure it would be a dead snake.

Haha. I wanted to make it a dead snake but the garage was closed and couldn't get to my tools. I tried and when I came back, I couldn't find it in the tree.

Looks more triangular to me. Maybe this one shows the head better.

Not always the case but that head makes it more likely to be poisonous. So look out for it.

Yeah, I have a 6 year old so that is definitely a concern.

After doing a little research, I'm thinking the head is more pointed. It most closely looks like a Glossy Snake or a variety of Garter.

Looked up both those snakes. A Garter has vertical lines and don't see any on that snake. A Glossy looks like the head is and width as the body. That snake looks like the base of the head is wider than the body.

Hell I'm no snake expert. Like I said unless I knew 100% it would be dead.

Found this, a Texas Bold Rat Snake. According to a Houston Zoo blog it is likely the longest snake you will find in Houston. Good news not venomous. Here is the picture from the blog.

Yeah, it could be that rat snake as well. The base of the head does look a little wider than the neck but I wouldn't say it's wider than the body. IDK.
I'll feel better if I get another chance at it or see it dead in the street. If only I would have gone out the garage instead of the front door but I was trying not to wake people up.

Go and get a cat!
It's perfect for snakes and scorpions
