LG G4 Sprint Update being worked on

I got a notification for an update yesterday. I didn't update yet. Are there details on what this update changes, fixes, adds or removes? I don't like performing updates like these without knowing more about them. A reflex from past horrors of updates gone bad and such requiring factory resets and the like. Windows and android both.

Just got mine and installed it. Seems a bit snappier.

Heads up for Sprint users ( and all carrier versions really). This is a post by autoprime over on XDA. Looks like the update probably won't allow rollback so it's possible the root method that exists may not work after taking the update. Time will tell.

His post is below and came from this thread:

Howdy. Appreciate the thought. Fortunately I actually had the update sent to me last night. Having looked at the update I can confirm it does update the bootloader to that "1" version.. so as far as we can tell... you'd never be able to go back to "0" (ZV4). Unless LG messed up or missed a part to properly block antirollback/downgrading... antirollback is set.. checking with previous phones.. it is NOT set.. so we can only assume it's finally real. Once root come out.. some lucky tester can try downgrading in the name of science... see if he survives it (preferably someone with insurance.. or someone that works at a phone store that can swap it out for free).

I would try to avoid the update if possible. It's very possible people who updated will still be able to root/unlock in the future (if we even get an unlock)... but it's only 100% if you have not taken it.

Will not be installing the update, then. I really want to uninstall all this bloat and gain access to some features that I want. Thanks :)

Finally got my update this morning. So far things seem a little more responsive, but it's still too early to tell as I haven't used my phone extensively yet. But I'm hopeful. :)

Here are the notes:

Looks like a touchscreen enhancement was included. Still holding off for now

Clearing cache didn't work. However I didn't think of it before but the page does load in chrome, so it must be something relative to firefox.

'Welp.. let's just say I can confirm anti-rollback is enabled and working on the #LGG4'

What does that mean? If one needed to go back to the build that was on the G4 out of the box they can't? If so that seems kind of a stupid design decision since there are always unforeseen problems some potentially serious enough to warrant flashing the previous build.

The way I understand it, if the update patched the current root exploit, then a new exploit would have to be found within the update in order to gain root. Without boot loader unlock, you wouldn't be able to flash ZV4 version and get root if you took the update.

I'm sure once root is safe and ready for prime time, someone will guinea pig to see if you can roll back.

I see so root would be required to roll back if it is even possible to roll back with root. I guess I don't understand why they wouldn't want the ability to go back to the previous version. As I assume if even with root we couldn't roll back it would mean LG themselves couldn't even go back to the previous version on a device already updated. Not that I would expect any problems severe enough to need to I'm just paranoid sometimes. Especially with something I just bought.

LG has access to the boot loader so they should be able to do whatever they need to do.

Ah I guess I don't understand enough of how things work beneath the OS. I figured because it was the bootloader that was changed to not allow it that even LG would not be able to go back. But if it is just an access restriction then theoretically we could do it too by gaining the access LG put there so that they could roll back if they wanted to. I'll probably do the update as soon as I'm done figuring out what's eating my battery. So as to not complicate variables by changing the OS.

Touch screen sensitivity is the main fix.

If you plan on rooting your device in the future I advice not to take the update. One of the behind the scenes thing happening is that you cannot downgrade once updated. So that means if a root process for zv4 comes out and you have zv5, you cannot simply downgrade then root. You would have to wait for a zv5 root process. I was foolish and took the update without looking into it. Now I'm stuck with zv5. I haven't done a factory reset yet due to the fact that I don't feel like spending 2 hours to re-download all my apps just yet. If someone is willing. To try a factory reset and see if it puts zv4 back on please let me know. Im very curious

Ps: you can fix the touch sensitivity with a simple app download.
