I moved from BlackBerry to the LG G5, pre-ordering it and getting quite excited about a flagship phone and apps! Within two weeks the phone was back at LG for repair (faulty GPS) and again a week after that (they hadn't repaired the GPS) and then for two months it waited for a new mobo. LG couldn't source one as apparently it was selling so well and had no spares. Eventually it came back and had a faulty screen, back it went and unsurprisingly it came back unrepaired with LG then basically refusing to repair it. O2 refunded me the full price at this stage, however I'd bought the phone for a 2 month cycle trip ironically to Korea and with it being in its 2 month holiday at LG's repair centre I foolishly bought another G5 to take with me which would hopefully then become my wife's phone. We liked this phone for its wide angle camera - lightweight and useful for cycling.
The second Phones camera cover broke when it was siting on a table in Korea, heat perhaps? Then when we got back it started to overheat, repeatedly. Just browsing the Web would take it up go 65C and beyond. Of course by then the warranty had run out and we'd had enough of the Life's Good if you don't buy our phones company.
We then decided to go cheap and cheerful and bought the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X international version with all the 4G bands for the UK. What a difference between the two Phones! The Xiaomi is faster than either of my G5's, runs cool doing anything and the battery lasts well past a day of heavy use. The cameras poor in low light though. It's system menus are more in depth with useful info such as what apps are using bandwidth, battery percent etc. The menus take some getting used to though! Memory management is good and I rarely get into the 3rd Gb of RAM.
It's been updated twice OTA already and a third is due at the end of September I believe. I'm impressed.
The fingerprint reader - another area on my G5 that was often hit and miss - is very quick and reliable and the whole phone zips along as if it has the faster chip, not the G5.
The only bug bear I can't seem to resolve is the notification bar at the top of the screen not showing temperatures from accuweather but just the accuweather icon. It's not a deal breaker and perhaps it's just my not finding the right setting.
However, It also only cost just over £100 and it's a huge bargain fun to use, never lags and such a relief after my LG nightmares.
