LG G6 - Camera shots! Show us your pictures

Frustrating. I like everything else about this phone (only had it a couple of days). But I have 3 kids. Even still shots tend to have a little motion, and sometimes they're indoors and not in the best light. It sounds like if they even bat an eyelash in medium light, the pic is going to come out poor (hyperbole, I know).

Always a compromise somewhere... I don't want to go to the S8, I don't like that form factor. But the camera is a relatively high priority to me, all else being equal. And while I'm sure I can get great shots with the G6, if the shots of my kids end up being disappointing half the time, then the other great shots are almost meaningless.

I had the same blurry low light shots on the S8+ if that helps any. The S8+ was using a shutter speed of 1/8 while he G6 was using 1/9 for the exact same pic taken at the exact same time. From my recent experience, Im finding neither of these phones handle low light movement very well at all.

Just a couple shots of many taken this weekend while out exploring a local park with the family.
Some cool abandoned structures out in the woods. I thought it was a good test of the camera's handling of color and outdoor lighting. It was a rainy stretch on Saturday, so there was a bit of glare and mist in the air...but these still turned out nicely.

That is helpful to know, thanks. I don't need perfection in low-light - and don't expect it. But I want the shutter to take the shot when I press it and not be blurry. I'd rather have some noise and no blur, and get the shot I want, than have blur, a "muddy look", and miss the shot!

My main concern with the G6 is the outdoor (in great light) motion shots. If my kid is sliding down a water slide and I want to get that photo at the bottom as he splashes, laughs, etc etc - will the G6 be able to capture that I wonder? Or will it be blurry? Or will it miss it completely as it's trying to focus? I've seen a lot of mixed results in this thread that have me concerned.

Ive had zero issues with motion in good lighting. This is one of my youngest riding a bike that did great at focusing and the sun was going down.

In decent to good light you'll be fine. I've taken lots of pics of my young kids running riot or on swings in the park etc and they've come out perfec with zero motion blur.

This is 2 of the shots I was talking about with the S8+. As you can see they are terrible with very little movement from the dog. Even the still portions of the pic looks horrible.

Thanks for that - that's exactly the scenario I want to make sure isn't an issue.

Ditto my last comment! :)

Yeah that's pretty bad - good to know the grass isn't greener on the other side (if not worse...).

Bye, bye Los Angeles.
Hello Boston!

First post! New G6 owner here and thought I'd contribute to this thread. (Appreciated the photos posted as I was researching whether to buy the phone or not)

Moderately low-light selfie. (Not very good quality selfies on the G6, has to be said. My Nexus 6p takes a better selfie)

Loving the pop out picture with the trees. You made really good use of it there

In doing some more testing last night, the phone can actually take some really good low to medium light shots if it grabs focus right and the subjects are holding still - they rivaled (and beat) my iPhone 7 in a couple of examples. I'd share, but they're of my kids and their faces really show off how good the photos are, and I'm not comfortable posting photos of my kids' faces here. :)

I also did some motion testing and using burst definitely helps, but it still has to get in focus first, which is occasionally slow (regardless of lighting). I wonder sometimes if removing the laser auto-focus was a step backward.

The G6 could end up being a camera that just takes some getting used to and has a bit of a learning curve with its idiosyncrasies vs other flagships that cater to the quick point-and-shoot crowd.

Has anybody toyed with the zoom? It seems that when you zoom all the way in and take a photo, it actually comes out more clear than taking a normal photo and cropping it down to the same size (even if focused on the same spot). Is that a benefit of the extra camera, similar to the iPhone 7 Plus?

Zoom is actually pretty good on this phone I'm finding. It's not the same as the iPhone 7 Plus as the second camera on that is a telephoto lens (2x optical zoom). I've also noticed since the last software update that the shutter button also controls the zoom now by moving it up or down (same as Galaxy s8)

What variant do you have? I have the Verizon version and it got an update out of the box, but nothing since then, and the shutter button definitely isn't doing that on mine. Not a huge deal, just curious.

Mine is Unlocked and the European varient. Currently on the April security update and I THINK the shutter zoom thingy came with that update. Hopefully yours will be along soon. Here's some screen shots of mine to show what I mean

that's cool.. Mine doesn't have that (T-Mobile version)

Weird. No, I'm on the April 1 update but don't see that option. Holding down the shutter just takes a burst.

Holding the shutter down still takes burst shots for me too but sliding the shutter up or down operates the zoom for me. I've noticed that it only works in Auto mode too and not manual. That is weird if you're on the same software though
