Hello all,

I received a G6 to trial and is mine to keep. They sent it with a US Cellular sim card. I called US Cellular and they act like they have no idea about it.

I tried my Sprint sim card and it will not work of course.

Has anyone ever been through a trial like this? Is this phone possible to use without US Cellular, etc?

Does the trial come with free service?

Go into settings.... About phone.... Hardware info and that should tell which model it is. Then we can determine which carrier or carriers it will support.

Hi Mike,

LG US997

No, they didn't say anything about free service, but I thought I would be able to use the phone.

Thanks for your help.

You'd have to get US Cellular to unlock it or the ability to flash another carriers firmware which as of now I haven't seen that ability.

Is it possible that it's unlocked? If so it should work for most carriers. That' s the same model number for the unlocked version on bhphotovideo.com that hasn't officially come out yet. See link below.
Inserting a Sprint SIM will not make the phone automatically work. You must provide Sprint the phone' s IMEI number in order for the device to get registered and activated on their network.

Right now that model number is not listed as a device that can be activated with Sprint but it will be soon since it's the same model number as the unlocked version that is coming out.

I would wait until the official unlocked US version is released, and then ask Sprint to activate it. Of course, it must be an unlocked device.

Or you could just activate it with US Cellular now as it appears it would work with them espescially if it's locked. Not sure why they were confused when you spoke to them before.

I wonder if B&H has the wrong number. That number is listed on LG's site as US Cellular. That's also the model they sent flossy carter that only worked on US Cellular.

Here is the LG official response.

"While your unlocked LG G6 (LG-US997) is generally understood to be compatible with AT&T, T-Mobile and U.S. Cellular, this is not an exhaustive or guaranteed list as carriers and frequencies sometimes vary by region. We encourage you to confirm service compatibility with your local cellular company."

So they're saying the unlocked version may not work as an unlocked phone? Thats really confusing and kind of the reason people buy an unlocked phone.

It may be an unlocked phone, but if it doesn't have the frequency bands your Carrier uses in your area, it won't work. That's basically what LG is saying here

For example, it doesn't appear to support Band 66 which T-mobile uses for part of their LTE network, but other bands T-mobile uses are supported. It does support Band 2,4,5,17 which are the ones AT&T uses, etc

I'm thinking about getting US997 to use on T-Mobile. It looks like it's missing band 66 for T-Mobile but that's a new band for T-Mobile and I'm not sure where that band is even being used.
