LG G6 worth a buy?

If I were buying a smartphone today, I'd go with the LG G6 again. I've owned it for about 4 months now and it's been working great. I bought it online from ATT for $570 which is an excellent deal compared to the cost of the LG V30 or Samsung S8.

I consider the G6 to be a latest phone. The V series is more of a competitor to the Samsung Note series phones, and the G series phone from LG are more of a competitor to the S series phones from Samsung. The G6 is actually a direct competitor to the Galaxy S8. So, if you get a G6 you are actually getting the latest flagship from LG.

Wow, that *is* a really good deal!

This is what I was looking for. I'm about to go to AT&T this weekend and couldn't decide between the V30 or the G6. The V30 is super nice. But I just didn't know if it was almost $300 more nice.

Go for the unlocked US997 model $449.99 at BH photo. Works on all carriers. I absolutely love mine!

i'll join in and say this is one of the best android phones around. Everything is top notch. The camera takes amazing pics, the battery life is great, its very fast and call quality is wonderful.

G6 was a non starter for me without 128GB. But now that Amazon is offering the G6+ with 128GB for only $499 if you can put up with ads, I'm seriously considering it. That's several hundred dollars less than a Pixel XL w/128gb or an LG v30+. Obviously a few compromises but great savings and I don't always have to have the latest and greatest.

How you use the phone will determine whether you will be happy with it for 2 to 3 years. As designed, the G6 does most things very well. It's a solid phone. I got mine in early April and have yet to see a newer device I would rather own for the money. I have seen some quality control issues such as misbehaving call quality on the Verizon version, but I think I'm in the minority with that issue.

I find these threads funny. "Is this phone still good 8 months later? I want to keep it for 2 to 3 years." borderline ironic.

but to answer your question, yes the phone is still good. Every device out there will have it's gripes. my vibration motor stopped working. I have a 2 year warranty so I'm not worried about it. I'll wait for a second big issue to come up before I get a full replacement. I don't like the idea of a refurbished phone that was in someone else's hands for who knows how long. I rather have mine repaired and returned.

wow. I went off topic sorry.

I love my G6. the only thing I would even consider jumping to would be a V30. The form factor of the G6 just feels so great in the hand that I don't think I could be as happy with it.

Yes, the form factor... Man, that is one sweet device to hold.

I almost pulled the trigger on it...

Until I discovered that the North American release removed the DAC feature and replaced it with wireless charging.

I seriously have little use for that and for me, the DAC was what I wanted and so I said no.

That said, the G6 was actually my first consideration before the V30+.

You could check if the Korean model would work with your carrier, that one has the DAC instead of the wireless charging.

I now wish I would have stuck it out with my LG G6 instead of defecting to the Pixel 2. Other than the camera I'm not all that impressed anymore. :( I miss the size and feel of the G6. That LCD was very nice.

I would say at this point the G6 is still a solid phone, but we are approaching the release of the G7 - if you can find a deal now and don't mind being a year behind almost, pull the trigger. Otherwise, try to wait and see what the G7 offers.

Sorry to hear you aren't enjoying your Pixel 2 as much as you thought you would. I've held the G6 in my hands - it's very tough to put that phone down. It's gorgeous too.

You're right in saying that the G7 will drop soon next year, and so waiting to see what that brings to the table is always an option. The only thing I'm hesitating on with the G6 is its processor; but in reality, it will work well and be snappy regardless of whether it has the latest Snapdragon. I've never been one who needs the latest and greatest... That being said, I always get excited seeing the new phone releases - even if it's phones I don't want. 🤣
