What do you guys think?

I absolutely love my GNex, an my next purchase was going to get the next generation Nexus, but then enters the http://androidcommunity.com/asus-padfone-2-shown-off-on-video-20121012/ the Asus Padfone 2. I'm completely on the fence now. If I can't get just the Asus Phone without the the tablet dock, I'm going for it. But if not, then I'm getting the Nexus 4 or what ever new Nexus I like that comes out by the time my contract is up in January.

Whats wrong with the padfone? The LG Nexus doesn't even look all that great. If you already have a GNex you don't need to get this years ugly ass LG nexus.. Padfone looks great.

Agreed. If the padphone has a removable battery.. I would be much more likely to choose it over LG Nexus. The specs look great and is relatively Vanilla android.

I'm just saying to my self, and "LG Nexus back casing is cool and all, but no removable battery?" Knowing how the batteries on Android drain a bit quicker than the leading smart phone. Other than that that, I don't know why see to buy the LG variant? For that stay with my current GNex which I love. OOR, that new sexy looking (the way the Nexus should have looked) ASUS, with removable battery door and just slap some vanilla android Jelly bean on it or leave it as it... It's hard

The Padfone 2 with the dock looks cool. But if it comes to the US at all it will probably be very hard to get. And very expensive. From what I fear the Padfone 1 was pretty darn rare in the US.

If it isn't Nexus, I don't bother. It's more than specs and looks. Personally, I don't think the Nexus 4 looks bad at all. Anything other than Nexus is going to have a shorter life because of the significantly smaller modding/dev community and gimmicky features like those found on the Padfone will always cause delays on updates if they ever come.

Given that there isn't support for the LTE 700mhz spectrum band, there's a low possibility that Padfone 2 is coming to Verizon. LG's close relationship with Verizon means a higher possibility a Nexus phone will be coming to VZW.

If I was even given an option I'd still go with the LG Nexus. It'll come stock with JB unlike Asus. Promising a future update to Jelly Bean is one thing but releasing it before the end of the year is another.

I guess I just don't take something like the Padfone seriously. It's like the Kyocera Echo to me.

Wow... Couldn't further from something like the ECHO.
The issue with the PADfone is that it docks to the tablet but still uses the carrier's data. WITHOUT adding the extra $10 or $20 a month for a separate tablet device on the "share everything" plans. As such, VZW / ATT not likely to pick this up. Which is unfortunate because spec wise it's bleeding edge, design is solid and ASUS has a strong track record with Android devices. IF it ever came to the US, and price point came down from the stratosphere, I think you we see a decent dev community develop. But sadly, a US release is unlikely. A Kyocera ECHO this is NOT....

I couldn't agree with you more atranchina.
Buying anything other than a Nexus device is like buying a computer that stops getting updates after 15 months. Actually....it's the same thing.

Padfone 2 looks okay. But the first Padfone seemed to flop so badly, I suspect this one probably won't really take off either. And the phone is pretty chunky looking.

I like the look of the LG Nexus 4. I've never owned an LG phone, and I don't have any prejudice against them as a manufacture. And while ASUS has been pretty good with software updates to their tablets, I'd still much rather have a stock Nexus phone. The Nexus 4 or possibly another Nexus phone is definitely what I'll be getting.

pad phone 2 spec look great. Wish they released this thing in the US with LTE

Been internally fighting over this exact question for the last several months. Just moved to a GNex from an EVO, bought off ebay to save my upgrade for one of these, with the plan to just have it as an interim device b/c the EVO was dying and wanted into Nexus goodness.

Unfortunately, now that the Padfone 2 has been announced and the LG Nexus 4 rumors have pretty much given us all the details, I've been disappointed by both and the question has gotten harder to answer rather than easier. No removable battery is a deal breaker for the LG in my book, unless they've got some new battery tech that's different than the Optimus G that gives like 2 days constant on battery life, then a fixed battery isn't enough. So as much as I like being in the Nexus fold, as of now, it's either stick with my Gnex, or hope that the rumors of multiple manufacturer Nexi are true and someone else comes out with something.

As for the Padfone, I've been drooling over this since it was first announced, but really disappointed that they did away with the keyboard dock. I currently carry around my Gnex and Transformer Prime. Really wanted to be able to sell both and consolidate into one device, ie only managing apps, files, etc on one central brain. T-Prime has already replaced my need for a laptop, really wanted one device that could be phone, tablet, or laptop, but guess that's not going to happen. Plus the fact that it's not Nexus and you're still reliant on manufacturer updates.

Think in the end, my dream device that I'll be forever waiting for is a Nexus Padfone with removable battery and keyboard dock..... Think I'm going to be waiting awhile.

Agreed; I would love a Nexus Padfone. But didn't they say in the demo for the original Padfone that it's compatible with the Transformer keyboard docks and such? I wonder if that's still applicable with the Padfone 2.

If an unlocked version is available in the US, the "issue" you pointed out would actually become an asset. I reeeeally hope it's released in the US. Although it is unlikely, as you said.

Padfone 2 has bad a** specs so does the LG nexus pretty much they have the same specs the only difference is the camera padfone has a 13 mp camera lg nexus has 8 mp camera. So padfone is better than the nexus
