LG Spectrum cases for extended/battery problems

First off, I am new here. Hi.

I've had a nightmare experience so far with my LG Spectrum. I got the phone around April 3rd when Verizon was having a bogo sale and 3 people in my family got one. We immediately started noticing that the standard batteries would last for only 45 minutes to an hour when fully charged. We completely drained the batteries and recharged, but same issue. We took our phones to Verizon and they claimed that this was normal. I Googled about the issue online and found out it was extremely common. We tried to exchange our phones, but Verizon would not let us. We had tech support switch out our batteries, but same issue. Mostly we just text and use facebook/twitter. Nothing really heavy. Battery even drained when we weren't using it. We would go to sleep with it fully charged then wake up to a 0% blinking battery. The keyboard constantly crashed so we had to get Swype. Just such a nightmare with this phone. Anyways, we had no choice but to buy the OEM Verizon LG Spectrum extended battery. Fixed our battery issue like a charm, but the soft silicone grey case we got when we bought our phones doesn't fit the phone with the extended battery. We need a case that IS NOT a holster, but rather something that slips on like a silicone/jelly case without a belt clip. Any suggestions?

You could get the Verizon shell/holster combo and not use the holster...

i dont understand how 3 of you could be having this issue. First off it's not normal and verizon should have replaced the phone. me and my cousin have spectrums and neither of us have that issue. You can replace your phone though. They have a 1 year manufactures warranty and it's not normal for them to drain like that. And if they are draining while asleep then you have something wrong. From the first day I've had my spectrum the regular battery has always ran fine. If I keep the screen off and don't use the phone all day then it will stay over 90 percent charge no problem. If the verizon store is giving you crap then just call tech support and say you want a new phone. They will send you a refurbished one but I've got refurbished phones before that worked fine. and it will look like new.

You need to adjust the settings on your phone. Your battery issues are your fault, not the phone's.

agreed. Turn off the auto wifi, and wifi notification. Use the power option widget to to off the data signal at night. Other than the display, these seem to be the biggest battery eaters. Doing just those on a stock spectrum with moderate use ( texting, facebook, browsing, light gameplay) i was able to easily get 14-16 hours.

You could awlays root and freeze apps, also. I had one charge last for 48 hours, but that was very light use and almost no data useage.

Another thing that eats up battery is yahoo mail and facebook. I don't use either of these but installed them on my old droid charge for my mom when I gave the phone to her and the battery would die so much faster. Even with the screen off and not using the phone the battery would die pretty fast. But the last two posters are right; there are plenty of things you can do to improve your battery life. Unless all three of your family members got defective phones...which I doubt.

My wife has been experiencing the same issues. I have the thunderbolt so I know about poor battery life. I have tweaked my settings and use to be able to get the most of the phone. I am now getting 12-14 hours of moderate to heavy usage. I have also changed the settings on the LG Specturm for my wife. Battery still dies after 5 hours of none use. We turned off wifi, adjusted the screen brightness, turned off GPS services and still only getting 5 hours. Took it to Verizon and they said there was nothing wrong and installed an app killer. Still getting 5 hours. That's not normal. I told her to go back and tell them again. After that we will call tech support and see what they can do. BTW she was 2 days past her 14 day return window and they would not allow her to swap for a different phone.

There seems to be a runaway process that is using up the battery. Can't seem to find it. The battery usage says the display is the most used which is normal. But it should not cause these battery issues.

thats definitely not normal. Verizon reps are clueless. Don't take no for an answer and stand up to them because to tell someone that it's normal for a battery to die in 5 hours when you are not even using it is silly. I think LG advertises 300 and some hours of standby battery time. And I bet my phone will do that no problem, If I don't use my phone all day then my battery is well over 90 percent even 10 hours after I've taken it off the charger. And thats on the standard battery. I have no need for an extended battery since my regular battery does just fine.

You may want to explore rooting the phone and freezing as many apps as you can. And if your wife uses facebook and yahoo turn the auto sync off or make it update only every few hours. But really you shouldn't be having this issue if the phone is not defective. Because I ran my phone on the stock rom without freezing apps and my battery did just fine from the time I bought it. I was actually surprised how good the battery is because before I bought it I read a lot of reviews and so many people were complaining about battery life that I kinda expected it to not be as good as it actually is.

Worse comes to worse get a replacement phone. It will be a refurbished one but don't be scared of going that route because the refrubs look new and sometimes are better.

I had a droid charge which I bought new when they first came out and the one I bought new always took 3 minutes to boot and I always thought that was normal until I got a refrub about 8months after buying it and the refrub booted in 30 seconds and ran smoother than the one I bought new which I had for 8 months. I still have that refrubished charge and have never had any issues with it.

it is not all of us here that "have the problem"! it is the spectrum! Sure there may be people who do not have the problem, however, they are far and few between!
I wish I was informed about the one year manufacturer warrenty. I only called verizon like 9 time during the 1st year of having this POS! But of course they did not tell me there was a warranty. First they said it was normal. Then they said it was because I did not have a soft ware up date. Then they told me to take it in to a store, who did absolutely nothing but verify, that it does need to be on a charger all day long. Then they told me that i should go buy a new battery. VERIZON, i hope you read this and know, that this is why I will be ending my 14 years of business! I am so disgusted. It is all over the internet, the problems of the SPECTRUM!

I can't use my phone! it is not reliable, my friends can't stand talking to me b/c it dies in the middle of EVERY CALL! I can't use the camera, b/c it always says "Battery too low...."
SO F R U S T R A T E D!
