LG V20 and Removable Batteries

I don't swap batteries so I don't really care much about having a removable battery. I also don't worry about battery degradation because I get a new phone every 8 to 10 months. With that said, I do pull the back cover and pull the battery about once a week or so just to kind of reset things. I do like that aspect.

I have heard about the problems with the S8 breaking easily. The phone is almost completely glass so it's not surprising but this glass seems even more fragile than the S7 and S6.

My biggest concern is that I'm almost certain that we will lose the IR Blaster on the V30. I really like having this feature and it annoys me that all of my Android phones had this feature up until the S7 Edge. I hate it when they take features away.

I guess I would kind of like to see wireless charging on the V30 but I agree that it is very finicky. There were so many times when I grabbed my S7 Edge in the morning and found it almost dead because I had not placed it perfectly on the charge pad. It was very inconsistent. It's really just a gimmick.

I would like to see them add waterproofing. We know this can be done with a removable back cover as was seen in the S5. If they keep the removable battery, I hope they keep the metal back plate. Plastic makes the phone feel kind of cheap.

Let's hope they don't sell out and remove the IR blaster, I still like it and find it useful.

What if everything locks up or the phone starts acting weird. Or the phone gets super hot and is about to explode like the Note? With a quick battery pull that would be a simple task. I have a TPU case so removing the case is super easy.
Hold power down. As mentioned above, phones with sealed batteries can force a hard reset. And it's quicker than a "quick battery pull." Good news, power + volume down does the same thing. No need to pull the battery.

What if the battery starts to heat up? You're screwed if it malfunctions like the Note 7. Some apps cause the phone to lock up because of the RAM hog, happened before.

If your battery is heating up, then you turn your phone off.

I LOVE removable batteries myself and would much prefer it to a sealed, glassy phone. Unfortunately, if you want a flagship in 2017 you no longer have that option at this moment, though I hope I turn out to be wrong.

I use to miss the removable batteries more then i do now.
Probably because my last 6 phones have had sealed batteries
It was nice to be able to replace the battery if needed . I never carried an extra battery with me when I had a phone with removable battery.
But at home and not having time to recharge the battery that was in the phone was nice to just replace it with the fully charged battery before heading back out.
So far for me I haven't had any need to have a sealed phones battery replaced, and with the quick charge it doesn't take long to recharge it back up.
I guess I'm kinda indifferent between sealed batteries or removable batteries at this time :)

The V20 is a flagship.

From 2016 though right?
It's still a flagship and I'd still take it over any of the newer phones. Heck, I may still pick it over the V30 depending on its final specs. So what if it's 6 months old now if it's the best fit for someone.

Just that the person Mike quoted seemed to have been specifying 2017 phones unless I misread.

I guess it was open to interpretation, because I read it as any flagship still offered in 2017, even if it was originally released in 2016.

He said if you want a flagship in 2017 you don't have the option of removable batteries. I'm saying you can get the V20 in 2017. The V20 was released in the 4th quarter of 2016 so I'm not going to let a few months knock it out as a viable option.

Do you thin the V30 will follow suit?

I'd be guessing..... I'd say if they attribute the success of the G6 to water resistance then they might do they same with the V30. They could just engineer it with a removable back and water resistant at the same time. Really not that difficult to do. All you have to do is seal up the back except the battery contacts and then add a rectangular O ring between the body and back cover as an added measure. I'm afraid they may go for what sells and lowers costs.

I think it'd be really silly to attribute that everything to water resistance.

True.... I was going to include the glass back and wireless charging and a couple of other points. Their commercial seems to focus on water resistance and big screen that fits in your hand.

I would not be surprised to see the V20 go for the all display sort of thing the G6 did.

They'd probably need to find a way to make sure that it properly seals on the first-go when the back cover is put back in.

They'd also probably need to find a way to keep the back cover on when the device is dropped. On the Galaxy S5A, for instance, drops can sometimes cause the back cover or SIM tray to pop open. If it's dropped on water, the water-resistance rating is rendered completely moot.

It's really not that difficult to engineer. You just have to want to do it and keep costs down
