Android Central Question

I have an LG V20 where the screen broke (not readable any more, some areas are dark grey, other areas light grey).

I wonder if it is enough to just replace the screen: The phone also gets very hot, even if it is not switched on yet. Is that normal? (The hot area is just north of the battery pins - probably the processor).

thanks in advance for any help.

i will strongly suggest you carry your device to the service center. Heat could mean there is something seriously wrong inside the device after the drop.

Do consider joining the forums to keep us posted about your device. your answer can help others too.

The V20 is known to get hot near the top when in use, which is where the processor sits. When you say that happens while switched off, are you referring to a completely powered down state? I.e. Not simply the screen off, or going through the initial boot up process? If that's the case, there's a defect for sure, perhaps a software glitch preventing a full and proper shutdown. Could also be a hardware short, so how does the battery level compare between boots?

The good news is the V20 is relatively easy to repair (they actually knew what screws are when designing that one). The bad news is given it's age, it's likely not worth it to pay a shop to fix it. The V20 was an awesome phone, so it may be worth a shot to try fixing it yourself if you are technically minded. Then again, mine started acting up and I finally gave in earlier this year and replaced it. That's a sort of question only you can answer for yourself.

Thanks for the helpful answers! To make the description more specific:

1) The processor even heats up, when the phone's motherboard (without the display) is connected to the battery. I presume this would be a "completely powered down state"?
2) Processor reaches up to 100 degrees celsius in that state.

So would this be a clear sign that the motherboard is broken?

Are you sure that reading wasn't 100°F? There's no way a processor could get to the point of being able to boil water. If it was really 100°C, that would have to be some sort of short circuit, killing your battery and be short lived as the battery dies.
