LG V20 Signal and connection issues

Just a quick update. went to the TM store today and they again replaced the sim card again but still have the same problem. contacted LG again and again they said they have none of these issues mentioned with this phone but i can send the phone back to them and be without a phone for up to 2 weeks and no guarantee the problem will be fixed. if they won't admit they have issues with this phone how are they going to fix it, now if they want to send be a loaner for the 2 weeks then i will give up my NEW phone that is 10 days old to let them check it but we all know that's not going to happen. there are 100's of complaints in regards to this problem but LG will not admit to it, ALL they would have to do is admit there's a problem and we are working on it and i would be more understanding but to treat people like they are stupid and can't read that these issues exist is what makes be mad. So i have filed a complaint with the FCC weather it will help i don't know but if you are getting no where with the carrier or the MFG file with the FCC, if the MFG get's enough calls from the FCC maybe something can get done. i'll let you know what happens and please let me know if you are having problems like mine and i will be glad to send it off to the FCC

So I spent a bit of time on the phone with Verizon the other night and they had me do a "network reset" which seems to have helped my connectivity and call quality issues so far. I have made several calls from home during which I could hear the caller fine and they could hear me. I have also made several calls over my cars handsfree bluetooth connection which sounded better as well. So, we will wait and see how things go.

For those interested: Settings>backup and reset>Network settings reset. Once finished, shut down the phone (do not restart) Wait ten minutes, then turn the phone back on.

You will have to re-enter all your wifi passwords and reconnect any bluetooth devices, but after that, all should be well.

ok here's the latest on my v20 problem. took the phone back to TM replace it for the 3rd time and 4 sim cards and still the same problem. called TM loyalty dept and that also was a waste of time , they suggest i trade the phone in for another v20 or a different model, which at this point i am giving it a lot of thought but it will be with a different carrier, over 6 hours at the TM stores and countless hours on the phone with them, as i said before i don't think it's a TM problem but a LG problem but TM won't even attempt to call LG and try to resolve the problem. so i am going to check other carriers and look at the galaxy 8,they seem to be offering a better deal then TM. but i am done with LG no matter what carrier i go to.

Sorry to hear that. You must have been given phones from a bad batch. I've had a great time with my V20 thus far.

3 bad phones.... What are the odds?

I've actually been through that before with Spirint and a defective HTC TITAN. Went through six of them and finally left for Verizon and my first Android phone the EVO.

Each Titan had various problems with the camera, screen, reboots, and one was even DOA. All were refurbs.

I have the v20 from TM and have the same problem.it takes spells and will cut out no matter where i am . i can hear them and they cant hear me, this happens at the house ,driving down the road or setting still.

I've had this problem on my T-Mobile V20. Seems to mainly happened when talking to my parent's on their landline. I just assumed it was on their end (they have a really old phone wiring), but it happened a few times when talking to my wife on her T-Mobile phone (I almost returned my phone since it was still in the 2 weeks after purchase). I'll be talking to my parents and they'll ask me a question, I'll answer, long pause on their end, then I'll hear, "Are you still there?" Never had this happen on any other phone. I figured it was a problem on T-Mobile's end being it seemed to resolve itself, but this thread indicates it's a problem on other carriers which would indicate LG. Meh.

I've turned off VoLTE, Wi-Fi calling, and all of the voice enhancements (noise suppression & voice clarity) in the options and haven't had a problem in probably a month. Don't know if that is just a coincidence.

Refurbished are a whole different
Story.

Has anyone else had any signal issues with the LG V20? I have been on AT&T for a long time and had MANY phones even quite a few recently and never had an issue. Since upgrading to the V20 I no longer can connect at all while at work. I rely on my phone for the camera and email functions at work but this is pretty much a paperweight while there. I have noticed this while out at a few restaurants also. I love this phone but obviously I need one I can use. I know its not the location because I have never had an issue in these places before. Just trying to find out if it is the V20 in general or if maybe it is just an issue with my device and need to exchange it. Thanks in advance for any feedback anyone can give me.

I have had issues with mine as well. Certain places that I usually go to my v20 will lose the connection where my previous phones would not. Pretty irritating!

So I spent about an hour on the phone with Verizon today about my connection issues and tried some new things that he suggested.

It seems my call quality suffers most after being on a call for longer than 2 minutes. After that the call becomes very choppy and near impossible to understand.

After connecting to my phone via the Tech Coach app, the tech determined that I had 86 apps running in the background which were using up a large amount of RAM as well as data. Also, my signal strength was a bit borderline on LTE at -103 to -106 dbm. His conclusion that the poor LTE and large amount of apps was degrading the Advanced Calling data stream which resulted in a choppy and frequently dropped call.

The solution was to disable Advanced Calling/HD Calling and uninstall a bunch of apps. The ones I couldn't uninstall, I ended up limiting background data use on. So, we will see how it goes. He didn't think swapping out the SIM card would make a difference. Per the tech, the next step would be a FDR and manually installing each app and if that doesn't work, a warranty replacement with a refurbished V20.

The last few calls I made seemed to be OK.

I'm so over the v20! Almost immediately after upgrading from the G3, my v20 would drop calls as soon as the person answered on the other end. I ignored this for months, always needed to make the call right then and eventually it would go through. I've already now had one referb and I don't want to go through 3 more....Verizon has 1)updated network settings on the phone, 2) changed sim card, 3)ordered replacement phone, 4)updated network settings on new phone...called tech support who made me do FDR, stated it was a software issue...5) disabled HD VOICE on network profile, the support specialist in store said my phone was "not compatible" with this feature and compared it to putting diesel fuel in a hybrid. (this then caused my phone to act like I could not call and be online at the same time, went back--> 6) replaced sim card again to fix the new issue, 7) told me to call 832 *every time* my phone dropped a call, for 3-4 days, to study where/when it was dropping calls...now they're telling me its a network and Verizon issue and may send me a network extender to fix the problem. I never had this issue on my G3. 2 Verizon people have mentioned it sounds like my antenna drops when the call is connected. But once I get my signal back I can try the call again, same place and eventually it goes through. Of course Verizon says they have never heard of this issue before. I no longer want the v20 but Verizon states they cannot get me a new phone.

I think the problem is the LG phones are good from the start. Then the providers do the updates and the phones go to hell. This is exactly what happened with my V10 and now my v20.

I like LG phones, but the carriers always seem to ruin them with updates. From now on.... Only Samsung's for me. They seem to favor them.

I hear you...I don't want the v20 either but I know AT&T won't give me another phone. I loved my note 7 and was forced into the v20...I think it is BS I can't get another phone because they forced me to return my n7. The v20 ain't cutting it anymore.

I have the unlocked V20 with no carrier bloatware and still have signal issues.

So how do you explain people like me who don't have these issues after an update?
The only dropped calls I get are if I'm in a dead zone, the person on the other end is in a dead zone, or my ex hangs up on me.

@ Mike Dee, Its difficult as some do have problem while others do not. In my case, if I use my wife's V10 or my G2 in the same places I have problems with my V20, everything is fine. I can't really blame it on signal quality, unless it is an issue with the radio in my V20.

That said, it could also be caused by individual issues such as software and/or bloat on the phone. In my case, according to Verizon, I had over 80 apps running in the background which were using a considerable amount of RAM and data. Apparently if HD Audio/Calling is turned on and there is a weak LTE signal, the result is a choppy and intermittent call quality that results in a call seeming like it is constantly being dropped.

After turning off HD voice and deleting several apps as well as restricting background data use, things seemed to have improved for me somewhat. However, it is a pity that I had to disable one of my phones flagship features in order to fix things. I'm going to give it a week or so running on slimmed down apps before re enabling HD Voice and see what happens.

David

I'm referring to blaming updates as the tendency is to do.
With regard to HD calling I would try re-enabling it.

The exact same thing happened to me with my V10 on Verizon. Now same thing on my v20 with AT&T
