AC Question

My LG V20 will not read my text messages via Bluetooth in my car. Had a Samsung Note 4 and never even had to set it up. It just always worked. The LG V20 bluetooth is connected to my car and still won't read messages. My contacts upload and everything, but the text messages will not come through.

Bluetooth specifies how to get data between two devices, it doesn't specify which data or what the format of the data is. Some phone/car audio combinations just don't work well together. (For those who don't remember, back in the 2003 period, you couldn't send an MMS from one carrier to another - that got straightened out. The Bluetooth mess will be too.)

In the mean time, check with your car dealer's service department to see if they have an update to the audio system. Some companies are pretty good at keeping up with the latest phones. (And some don't even bother trying.)

I have the LG G5 H820 with Android version 7.0. The radio system on 2017 Toyota Highlander Hybrid Limited will not display text messages from the cell phone.

I have called Toyota support, on the phone for over an hour, could not get messages to appear on car. Took the car to Toyota dealer, they did a firmware update, still car will not display text messages. Salesman said to check with cell phone carrier AT&T.

I have done the factory reset on the phone. No change - still text messages will not display on car.

A coworker has the Samsung S6 with Android 7.0, and an iPhone 6 with OS 10.3. Both of these phones work fine, the text messages will display on the car every time. Also, my brother has the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 with Android 6.0. The text messages will display fine on the car from his phone.

The problem seems to be in the LG G5. Trying to get it replaced under warranty, or swapped for a Samsung.

You can't compare different models of phone, let alone phones from different manufacturers. Each manufacturer modifies the OS for each model phone.

Bring the phone to an AT&T Device Support Center (if you don't know where yours is, ask at the AT&T store you normally go to - they'll know.) But it's entirely possible that LG modified the G5 Nougat ROM to not send text via Bluetooth. (You do have Bluetooth enabled on the phone, right?)
