Ive read where Verizon has removed/disabled “Smart Settings” on the LG V30.

Is this true?
Are there any other limitations or changes that Verizon forces on this phone?

If there are, would buying an unlocked version, once they become available, bypass the Verizon settings or would they still be there once you activate the phone on that carrier?

Or, is it possible to remove the limitations imposed upon by Verizon?

TIA

An factory unlocked model would solve that since it wouldn’t be a carrier ROM on it, therefore, being free of their bloat and software limitations/locked/removed features.

Verizon sucks, don't they. I gave them up after 25 years.

I would switch from Verizon if i didnt have so many lines tied up there.
Looks like if you get an unlocked phone, then use verizon there are features they block you from like wifi calling, advanced calling.
But, it looks like on a verizon version they still block you on smart settings and fm.
:(

Yes, Verizon has removed Smart Settings but it still has "Smart Cleaning" in settings.
I am a little sad that Verizon makes to many changes.

Lateck,

Verizon has FM.

Where? I have tried to find it or use it. But it is not available.

You have to download a 3rd party app. I use Nextradio from the play store. It uses headphones as an antenna. It's a little confusing to make sure your getting your signal over air, as it also supports streaming.

You will loose advanced calling features if you use a nonbranded phone. I use WiFi calling all the time on my Verizon phone in Europe and India. You can't really say unlocked, because all Verizon phones are SIM unlocked.

This is insane. Why oh why would they block wifi calling and smart settings? What does Verizon benefit from such a move?

But lose things like VoLTE , HD voice, wifi calling and all that. There are pros and cons.

I use a few nonverizon phones. I have advanced calling on all of them.

It will vary from phone to phone.

You say you have advanced calling such as VoLTE. Does HD Voice / WiFi calling also work on those?

Just for the sake of gaining knowledge...
If i would get a LG V30unlocked when they come out it would be blocked from using: VoLTE, HD Voice, and WiFi Calling?

I was hoping that since it is the same phone, just straight from LG i would be able to be golden.

So, even if i pay outright and upfront for the phone from Verizon they will still lock it down?

Sheesh!
Ok, so are ther any carriers out there that does not modify the phones from how they were designed?
I may not be able to take all of the lines, but maybe just mine to another carrier.

HD voice yes but not wifi calling. This was on a Moto G4Plus and a Nexus 6P.

6P I know worked. Verizon tried to pretend it didn't but it did.

As for the topic at hand I doubt an unlocked V30 will get any of that. Maybe VoLTE but not WiFi calling and such.

Verizon's Visual Voicemail Premium is what I would miss. I never listen to voicemails, just read the text of it.
