Hey guys,

Didnt see a thread similar created so thought id start one as im curious to know what phone Nexus 6P daily driver users will move onto next. If this does exist i apologize, let me know the thread and ill kill this one off.

So, is it the Pixel 2? OP4? Maybe the S8?

I myself have a long list of devices i've used, but im primarily a year behind (got a 6P last year)...however my next upgrade I want to move to the flagship thats released at the time. I have tested the Pixel at some stores and think its a really nice phone, but it doesnt make me want to run out and buy one. I had an S6, using a Samsung device for 12 months was more than enough to make me not want another for a few more years but everytime i play around with the S7 Edge at some stores i think it looks fantastic...but then i realize its a Samsung and sort of move along.

For work I am using an 6S and i gotta say that surprisingly iPhones are growing more on me. My very first smartphone was an iPhone 3G (which i loved), after a few Windows Phones i moved back to iPhone with the 5S but the screen was too small and iOS sort of bored me (at the time). But i think iOS10 has grown up a lot, i appreciate a lot of the changes done to better it(make it closer to Android)...so im also looking at the 7S Plus (my main gripe with 6S is its too small, 6P has spoiled me).

concerns with moving to iPhone:
  1. I like Google Now, not sure if iPhone will fill that gap well
  2. I use Android Auto, i do have Carplay but worried Apple Maps wont be as good as Google Maps
  3. Flexibiliy to chose how to use apps (i.e. want to share an article from app, i believe Apple options are limited while Android allows everything)

As far as Androids, ive got my eye on the Pixel 2 primarily...OP4, S8, HTC11 dont really interest me. Actually the other device ill keep my eye out for are the new Moto devices but it seems that since theyre removing the Mods (rumors?), Lenovo is in an limbo confused state with the brand.

So what you guys thinking? I know a lot of people end of year will be into 2 years owning this device, will you move on or stick it out for longer? The 6P is a fantastic phone, i cant really complain a lot about it and sure itll hold up well into 2018.

I use a 6P as my work daily driver and a Pixel XL as my personal daily driver. Due to security and other concerns, until some pretty huge issues in the market are solved, I won't be buying devices that aren't from Google or Apple. Of those two, I prefer Google. So my top choice will probably be the Pixel 2 if that's a thing, followed by the current Pixel XL, followed by whatever the best iPhone is this fall, followed by another 6P.

I'm not sure what's next. If the next pixel actually has a decent size screen I might grab one, otherwise it'll probably be Samsung. The rumored 6"+ screen is very appealing to me.

I think I'll stick with the Nexus 6P for as long as Google supports it. Best phone I've had. Pixel 2XL will be nice, but probably very expensive.

I'm rolling on my 6P until this fall, probably going to go with one of the Pixel 2's as a replacement. I actually just had the batter replaced (story behind that) as it had degraded about 10-15% (which is expected for a phone with 14+ months of constant use).

I am going to stick to Google phones for the foreseeable future. The other OEMs still haven't fully extricated their heads from their backsides, so Google's the most reliable option.

Came to this from an Samsung N7, wanted a pixel but the wait was too long. I'll probably go with the nexts8/n8 or maybe the G6. I've have an upgrade ready since august, the wait is killing me.

Yeah, I think they woefully underestimated the possible demand.

To be honest, my 6P is getting more of the Pixel features by the day.... in fact, if I felt inclined, I can flash a modified system image that gives the 6P near every Pixel feature. In that respect, I guess this is the first time that I've been a year in and there isn't a phone on the market that gives me a compelling reason to dump what I have now and drop the cash to upgrade.

Same here,my 6P still ticks most of my boxes for a phone. Because of the great build quality, I`d probably see whatever Huawei have available at the time when I decide to upgrade.

I'm using the 6P as daily driver and N6 as media device and backup phone. Don't see any compelling reason to move on for a while. Definitely not switching to iPhone. Just too restrictive and boring. Only thing I don't like about the 6P is the build quality.

Chezm,

We are both Canadian. I can guarantee this 10th Anniversary iPhone in a 6P size will cost $1,500 easy. That right there will take it out of the running for me. I bought an iPad mini to give IOS another chance. It's better than the last iPhone 4 that I had but it's still to restrictive and that notification dropdown is a mess.

I am wasn't excited about any phone last year which is why I bought the 6P. In 2017 I am not feeling anything right now either. Everything is just meh. One thing is for sure. I won't even bother looking at a phone now with a smaller screen than the 6P. Also, nothing less than a 4,000 mAh battery. I don't want to hear any mess about how "optimized" the software is. It's 2017. Do both so I never have to think about charging it at any point during the day regardless of my usage.

Had the 6P and bought the Pixel. Generally I get a new phone every 6 months so it'll probably be between the Pixel 2, S8 and Note 8. All 3 look exciting so let's see what the later part of the year brings.

It's gonna be a toss up. OnePlus 4/5. Maybe a Moto Z. Most likely a mate 9. I have really been struggling to rationalize a new phone purchase, but my 6P really works like a charm these days.

What it won't be is a Pixel. Unless they start to think more Nexus-like with the Pixel 2. Unlikely 😒 I know.

I just got my Nexus 6p the other day from a buddy second hand I was dying to try out stock android without buying a pixel I now use this instead if my iPhone 7 plus and my work phone is a Samsung s7 edge. To be honest now after using this I'd have to say that stock android is the way forward for me. So next pixel phone is definitely top of my list.

I really wanted a 6P but it never worked out for me; however, after my Nexus 5 I went to LG and then to Honor/Huawei. I dunno, it's a pretty tall order to replace the 6P! Stock Android spoils you (or me, at least!)! I really love my Honor device but I will keep an eye on the Pixel 2 to see what's up!

I have been all over Samsung and never again except maybe a Note.

iPhone 6S Plus now, with iOS 10 - not 9, is nice and comes close.

Huawei EMUI 5 on the Mate 9 is first truly feels right. Almost same size as that 6S+ but feels much lighter, wider by fraction, but gets full 5.9". Similar screen. EMUI skin launcher seems like an Android meets iOS marriage. US$599.

Though the Moto Z Play isn't brand new, it is def. worth a look if you're looking for something similar to the 6p with great battery life! I've had the 6p since November 2015. Great phone but as it ages, so does the battery life. Such is the case with any non-removable battery phone. Reading the great reviews about the MZP's insane battery life, I decided to buy one used last month along with the JBL SoundBoost mod (both in exc. cond. for only $390!) as a backup plan.

The MZP is very similar to the 6p in aesthetics, design, near stock Android experience, etc. The 6p does have a little more real estate, the display is a touch better and it's a smidge thinner than the MZP. However, the 6p's battery life is nowhere near the MZP. My 6p used to have over 5 hours SOT but it's around 3 hours these days. I get 9+ hours SOT on the MZP!!

The camera on the MZP is adequate but nowhere near the 6p. Speakers also go to the 6p as the MZP has only one, but the JBL SoundBoost mod does get loud. It's just too bassy for my liking.

All in all, the MZP is a great value! I believe it's the current battery king and the Moto mod concept is intriguing. Lenovo says new mods will come out every quarter. A JBL and Moto Share Projector combo would be killer for me as right now, you can only use one mod at a time. And here's a new proposed mod called "The Edge"...

I have had Nexus 6, 6P, 5x, and Pixel XL. I am now back on Coral Blue S7 Edge and very happy with this complete package.

Last time i had a Samsung was Note 4. Samsung came a long way since then. My next phone will be Note 8 a 110%. Can't wait for that beast to come out. There is nothing out there, nothing, that comes close to the Note series.

I dunno. It seems like you are afraid of commitment.

Wow a lot of good input from everyone, i did expect most to say they will stick with the 6P as i do agree the device checks most of the boxes in terms of things important to me. Like most, i appreciate the stock android experience and if i do stay with Android ill stick with a Pixel or something very close to stock (i.e. Moto).

As for Samsung, i agree they have come a long way and its easy for me to recommend their premium devices (S7,Edge) to someone. With that said, my first Android phone was an S3 which i loved a but after 8 months it drove me up the wall so i sold it for a Windows Phone (at the time i just liked them more). I had a Nexus 5 for a while and loved it but submerged in water and it was destroyed. I came back when the S6 was released and LOVED it for 12 months, but TW still has areas that Nova cant cover up and those bothered me. I also used some LG's (G3, G4, Vigor) and realized that stock android was the way to go after also testing out a Moto X Play. I can see why people love Samsung, many family members i have use them and swear by them...i get it.

iPhone, yes its crazy expensive...especially for us here in Canada. Is it boring because it lacks customization options? Totally. But the more and more i use my work iPhone 6S, it always works where as my 6P acts up sometimes...nothing major but enough to make me Huff at it. Will this make me run from android? No, but i use my phone for very few functions and maybe this is where my reasoning is different than others. My primary uses for phone are Texting (sms/Whatsapp), Navigation, browsing web, Youtube, E-mail and reading articles/news. Thats it. So when i compare side by side Android vs Apple, they actually offer the same experiences to me. And of all the things i use the phone for, other than Navigation (Google Mapls vs Apple Maps) i find iOS just does things better...Android isnt bad by any means, its not hard for me to recommend Android to anyone (other than iPhone fanatics like my wife). And like many people here, and the general public i guess, i use my phone every single day...i depend a lot on my phone...so spending an extra $100 or $200 more on something that i think works better isnt that big of a deal in the long run.

The good news is i have until October to decide and will utilize the chance i have using my work phone (iOS) and personal (6P) to figure out which works better for me.

Personally, I've used Samsung, HTC, Motorola... I'd prefer to not go back, but I will never say never. I'm really not a fan of Samsung with all their bloat apps... they are at the bottom of any list I have now. I usually upgrade every year, and I had pre-ordered the 6P within the first hour we could do it... so I've had this since the first week or so.

Right now, I'm think about waiting to see what the next group of Google Pixels (Pixel 2) will be and probably buy one of those very early after they release them. I also really like having a device that can go anywhere to any carrier and just slide in a new SIM card... so, I will probably buy it directly from the Google Store even though I'm on Verizon right now. Since I purchased the 6P I've been on AT&T, Google's Project Fi, and now Verizon. It's great to have the flexibility to move when and if I want to.
