light focus using the camera

So I came from the iphone where I could tap and adjust the light focus for picture taking. While this phone has a decent auto focus if my target is infront of a light source I just can't get a good shot. Are there 3rd party apps that can help? So far this is the only thing I've come across that's made me second guess my purchase. Any input is appeciated.
