Lighted Buttons

Perhaps I've missed something, but I sweat that sometimes my buttons are lit up, and other times they are off. Can anyone clue me in on the obvious?... why are they on sometimes, and not at other times while using the phone?

It's the strangest thing - the phone *has* backlit buttons (I was convinced it did not) but they're only active at certain times - and pressing them isn't one of them. If you're in a call, the buttons are lit up but most of the time you're using the phone and not on a call, the buttons are dark. I was using the phone in a dark room and the screen would light up (setting my alarm) but the hard keys were not lit. For the entire time I'm on a voice call, however (speakerphone) the buttons were lit up.

Don't have a comprehensive list of times the buttons are lit/dark but I do find it odd that they don't automatically come on when the screen lights up...

try this to get started ...
lock your phone> unlock it while holding your finger over the light sensor... the bubble on the right of the earpeice... notice the button lights are on ...
try the same thing again w/o blocking the light sensor... they wont come on...

I think it uses the light sensor on wake up form look to determine if it needs the lights.. being on a cal means your head would be blocking the light sensor... I assume it only check intermittently and not on a active basis though cause you can cover the sensor to turn them on .. remove your finger and they stay on.

I think your right, it certainly has something to do with the sensor. Last night at home it was on, and I had my living room dimly lit. Wish there was a toggle to make them come on on command.

no promise but it is possible it can be added via a widget or a rom... i woudl think that si VERY much possible.. I will keep an eye out for you..

I guess I understand that there's no reason to have them light up when its plenty bright outside, just found it strange, that's all. It kind of makes sense that it would be dependant on the input from the light sensor.

I'm pretty sure it depends on the lighting but the phone does have backlit buttons.
