My brother's friend got an X yesterday night in the mail and after some time he let me see it and I gotta say I'm impressed. I like my EVO and even tho I've only had it since launch, I wouldn't mind getting an X. Can you unlock the X for Sprint?

Sounds like you've made up your mind. I'm sure you'll enjoy the X, so go for it. Verizon's more expensive, but you cannot deny they have a good network.

Have fun.

Stupid idea IMO.

Sprint has just as good of a CDMA network as Verizon because you can roam for free. The additional fees you will be paying for the X in reality go towards paying for the phone. That is why the iPhone is such a bad idea. A typical plan with unlimted texts with an iPhone will run ~ $90 while my Evo with unlimited texts, data and practically minutes runs at $65 after taxes. There is a $25 difference that I am paying - not for network - but for the PHONE itself. You will be paying even more just to have a Droid X. Not sure what really hit your heart strings so much with that thing - its basically an Evo with a longer screen and a faster processor.

To leave Evo and Sprint for the Droid x and Verizon says a lot about your poor decision making. It's one thing to say that Verizon has better service in your area but to leave just for a cellphone that is equal to the evo says that you must have issues with always wanting the next big thing. I wish I had money like you to keep switching carriers for phones. Lol but hope you feel good with what you want.

Does the droid x have a physical keyboard? I will never again do a physical keyboard. Anyway on sprint you know in six months or so they will have a new phone better than the evo anyway. Might as well stay.

No the Droid x has no physical keyboard, and yes with new phones coming out all the time the Evo will be over taken in 6 months. I have a BIG feeling that the Evo 2 from HTC will support the 2ghz processor and 1gig RAM, I'm hoping a better looking screen But keep the 4.3 inch size. I love my Evo and Everything about it. Hell I would keep this phone until my 2 year contract was up. But since Sprint gives you a yearly upgrade and a big possibility that there will be a Evo2, I would deff get it after a year of having this. I paid the full price for my Evo and I came from having the Samsung Instinct.

guys settle down. people are allowed to have an opinion and decide on what they want to do with their money and time without having to be ridiculed.

from what i hear of the Droid X it seems to be a really solid phone. I know Cory loves his X. It all comes down to personal preference. Im not a fan of HTC so i personally would avoid the Evo unless they fix the build quality of their products. Then again the X has a locked boot load. you have to way out the positive and negative features of what you are interested in and then decide.

Well if he didn't want to hear our opinions then maybe he shouldn't have came here to the Evo forums and posted. I like my Evo and only wish him the best of luck with whatever decision he makes. I feel the same way as you do but about Samsung after there Instinct. We are not here to bash him, just trying to figure out how we can help and give him some advice. Sorry for any inconvenience I have caused.

I am curious why he would want the X over the EVO? I loved my HD2, but hated T-Mobile due to poor 3G signal strength. Wanted the X, but none were available, so tried the Samsung Vibrant (which proved it was not my HD2, but their poor 3G signal period!) and Captivate. Most of my time with those were just trying to make their TouchWiz desktop to look like the Sense UI, using Beautiful Widgets, but it was buggy. And the e-mail programs, ugh!!!!!!!! The OEM, K-9 (basically a slightly tweaked OEM version), and MailDroid were total garbage! And the sms/mms were too, compared to what HTC Sense UI offers. So basically, to get a phone similar to my HD2, but one a better carrier, it was the EVO hands down, and no regrets yet.

I will admit that the X still intrigues me. But from what I have seen, their Blur (???) UI does not impress me at all. Looks so lacking and plain compared to the Sense UI, would I once again be spending hours trying to make it look like Sense again? And how is the e-mail and sms/mms handled on the X? If it is as poor as on the Samsung Galaxy S phones, or in need of the K-9 or MailDroid programs, totally unacceptable.

It's all personal preference.. My first Android was a Nexus One and that is still close to my favorite phone of all time... If it just would have had a track pad instead of that track ball and would have come out for Sprint or Verizon as planned I would still have it.. the over all size and build of the N1 was amazing (IMO) I tried out the HD2 for exactly a week and WM 6.5 was crappy and again T-Mobiles network is HORRIBLE.... Yeah if your in one of their limited HSPA+ area's that Nexus One was BLAZING fast... Faster than 4G/Wi-Max but their overall 3G coverage is very tiny....

The EVO was next and I was lucky to be able to craigslist my Nexus One for almost what I paid for it (Which wasn't bad.. basically paid $50 to rent it for 3 months) and got the EVO.... Sprints coverage is awesome compared to AT&T and T-Mobile (specially where I live work and play) and you do roam on Verizon's network which gives you a pretty good chunk of the U.S.

The Epic seems neat but I hate physical slide out keyboard but the DNLA is interesting specially since I have all Samsung LED and LCD TV's with DNLA on them in my house..... But that would be a fad and I wouldn't use it much after the first month or two..... Or to show off to friends....

And for the Money Sprint is a hell of a deal (Monthly charges wise) vs Verizon by a LONG shot...

I am sure there is an android phone out there that maybe more suitable than the EVO. At this point and having the EVO for only a couple months, how do you switch to another phone with only a minor difference? For me to switch to another android phone it would have to have a feature, operating system or something SUBSTANTIALLY better than what i currently have. Otherwise, why bother?

I own and Evo and I love it. I've played with the droid X and it is nice and has great features, but i wouldn't go out of my way for a couple extra features. The Evo will be just fine until the next big release. People just have to remember "all great things come to an end". Meaning, the droid X will one day (probably sooner then later) be old news. Its only takes 3-6 months for a phone to outdone by another phone.

Both phones are solid. Both have advantages over the other. The thing that sold me was sprint. For one.....the yearly upgrades is a big plus. With other carriers you'll have to wait 2 years, and we all know how fast phones are advancing now....just think about it. Being stuck with a droid x for two years? By that time two new iphones a evo 2 and 20 other high end phones would prolly hit the market. That plus the prices. With sprint I can get unlimited everything for a good price. Having the ease of mind of not having to worry about going over your minutes or data is priceless itself. So imo sprint and the evo is a perfect combination. If you have the money to blow and don't mind waiting two years to upgrade then by all means itll def be worth it.

I like the Droid X, but I wouldn't take it over the EVO for many reasons. I think that in a year the Droid X will be less relevant. There will be more 4G phones out then. A lot if the smartphone will have front facing cameras for video chat, and the Droid X will be left behind. The EVO however will be able to last. Someone said in a previous post that the Proud X is faster. That hasn't been my experience. When handling the Droid X, I have found the speed to be either the same or a tad slower.

You never know... With rumors that Sprint and Clearwire are looking into LTE to replace WiMax in the future (who knows when that future is) the EVO could be less relevant than any of the other phones out there... Granted I think the EVO is a great 3G phone any way...

The problem is the smartphone market is evolving like the computer market did in the 90's..... It seems like as soon as you drop good money on some thing a newer and faster device hits just days later.... In January the Nexus One was a revolutionary device and was twice as fast as any thing on the market and was one of only what 2 or 3 phones with a 1ghz processor and now every thing has a 1 ghz processor (it seems) and there are rumors of dual core 1.2 all the way up to 2 ghz processors coming for later this year.

I don't know any one with a Droid X and I have limited play time with it at Best Buy.... But the guy next door has the original Droid and I know plenty of people with the iPhone 3GS and 4.... I have seen the original Droid run faster on a few things and slower on a lot of things.... same with the iPhones... It all depends on what your doing where your doing it and how great your signal is when your doing it.... At my house my EVO is faster than the iPhones and the original Droid... But go to my parents house and I barely get a signal and the iPhones kick @$$ there....

You just have to get what works best for where you live, work and play...

Plus unless you have unlimited resources you can't chase Tech.... It's always changing and newer and better $hit is always coming out every day...
