Like my EVO but would prefer a Droid X

I am a droid X user. Sms and emails are the same I would think as any android device. Signal is top notch on verizon, abeit Sprint's 4g is exceedingly better for now. I set up my dad's Evo a few weeks ago; used the speed test app, sat both phones side by side. Evo was on 4g, Droid X on 3g. Droid X got 1.2-1.5 mbps while Evo got 3.5-4 mbps, even tho 4g hasn't been offically released in Nashville yet.
If you are confused about the UI there are many launcher options available.

I played with the X briefly and it just feels really cheap and award to me.
Otherwise same performance as the evo just a better network

You never know... With rumors that Sprint and Clearwire are looking into LTE to replace WiMax in the future (who knows when that future is) the EVO could be less relevant than any of the other phones out there... Granted I think the EVO is a great 3G phone any way...

The problem is the smartphone market is evolving like the computer market did in the 90's..... It seems like as soon as you drop good money on some thing a newer and faster device hits just days later.... In January the Nexus One was a revolutionary device and was twice as fast as any thing on the market and was one of only what 2 or 3 phones with a 1ghz processor and now every thing has a 1 ghz processor (it seems) and there are rumors of dual core 1.2 all the way up to 2 ghz processors coming for later this year.

I don't know any one with a Droid X and I have limited play time with it at Best Buy.... But the guy next door has the original Droid and I know plenty of people with the iPhone 3GS and 4.... I have seen the original Droid run faster on a few things and slower on a lot of things.... same with the iPhones... It all depends on what your doing where your doing it and how great your signal is when your doing it.... At my house my EVO is faster than the iPhones and the original Droid... But go to my parents house and I barely get a signal and the iPhones kick @$$ there....

You just have to get what works best for where you live, work and play...

Plus unless you have unlimited resources you can't chase Tech.... It's always changing and newer and better $hit is always coming out every day...

Stupid idea IMO.

Sprint has just as good of a CDMA network as Verizon because you can roam for free. The additional fees you will be paying for the X in reality go towards paying for the phone. That is why the iPhone is such a bad idea. A typical plan with unlimted texts with an iPhone will run ~ $90 while my Evo with unlimited texts, data and practically minutes runs at $65 after taxes. There is a $25 difference that I am paying - not for network - but for the PHONE itself. You will be paying even more just to have a Droid X. Not sure what really hit your heart strings so much with that thing - its basically an Evo with a longer screen and a faster processor.

Yea, only when roaming there is no data roaming!

Both phones are solid. Both have advantages over the other. The thing that sold me was sprint. For one.....the yearly upgrades is a big plus. With other carriers you'll have to wait 2 years, and we all know how fast phones are advancing now....just think about it. Being stuck with a droid x for two years? By that time two new iphones a evo 2 and 20 other high end phones would prolly hit the market. That plus the prices. With sprint I can get unlimited everything for a good price. Having the ease of mind of not having to worry about going over your minutes or data is priceless itself. So imo sprint and the evo is a perfect combination. If you have the money to blow and don't mind waiting two years to upgrade then by all means itll def be worth it.

Verizon lets you upgrade every 12 months on a 2-year contract if you have a talk and text plan starting at $59. They also let you upgrade every 10 months if you're on a 1-year contract.

And Verizon is coming out with an all you can eat unlimited plan for $99/month. I have the $90/month for unlimited data, text, and minutes on weeknights/weekends (450 whenever) and I hardly get close to my minutes so no need for me to switch.

The main reason I chose Verizon over Sprint was because I've heard a lot of negative things about Sprint but great things about Verizon. Good luck with the Droid X, I'm glad that if you're switching it's at least to another Android device, I'm just pro android really. My folks have verizon and love it, I had it for a while myself and it was alright so I'm sure you'll be fine with that.

If you see something on your DX adventures that can help out us Evo users don't forget to drop a line!

But, if it's a question of customization or something like that then let us know, maybe someone can help you stay with your Evo and give Sprint one more reason to keep on keeping on!

Yeah but with unlimited any mobile any time on Sprint I easily survive on the 450 minutes per month plan. I barely use 100 any time minutes on Sprint since I made the switch to the EVO and I travel for a living and use the phone as my primary phone for all my calls to customers and co-workers. On last months bill I used 107 any time minutes 1013 Mobile to Mobile minutes and 344 nights and weekend minutes. 978 text messages and 1.7 gig of data all for $66 after my corporate discount and added taxes and fees with my EVO.

Sprint does not even advertise their $99.99 plan... They advertise the heck out of the $69.99 plan with Any Mobile Any time....

I don't know how the roaming data works.. My account says I used 107,818 kb of data on roaming but then says "Additional Chargers $0.00" so I roam some but I am not getting charged any thing for it....

You can roam on verizons network with talk and data. I have done it a few times. It didn't cost me anything and when I called Sprint they said it was free and included in my plan.

Thanks... I was going to chat or call them and ask since it was at the bottom of the bill and it was in ALL RED, specially the $0.00... I wanted to make sure it stays at $0.00.. I am sure there is a cap for roaming but it's probably decent.. Might still have to ask just to make sure so I can watch it if need be..

I stand corrected... are all phone compamies going to one year upgrades? When I got my evo at launch the only phone carrier that I knew of that did one year upgrades was sprint
