Hello Android Central

I have become exceedingly frustrated with trying to get this to work.

I have partitioned my SD Card with FAT32 with it set to Primary

I have tried through Recovery. I have tried on the PC.

I have rebooted my phone after partition.

Each time Link2SD says it cannot find it. I have looked through threads and I have yet to find a solution.

I need help. Also I have Drew's CM7 with Xionia Redux kernel.

Pretty sure it needs to be formatted to ext4. The partition can be any size you want, but formatting it will work following these instructions: http://forums.androidcentral.com/lg...7-gingerbread-8-19-2011-a-39.html#post1085773

EDIT: I personally recommend flashing this: http://db.tt/u8I3UQu (cache2sd) after formatting the partition. Works much better. It will store most of the app stuff to your partition and only limited necessary files to the physical phone memory! And if you post in the ROMs and hacks section you will probably get more help with this type of stuff in the future. ;)

Look towards the end of the thread on the Reborn ROM in the ROM and Rooting Section for the Optimus S. There is a reference on how to create a ext4 partition. I am using Reborn, but one of the posters is using CM7. I now have 1 GB of internal memory.

I don't recommend that method only because it causes issues down the road. It's not a bad option! However, it will cause Market issues later on when memory (particularly cache) gets full. You will have about 750mb (example) left and the Market will give a "not enough space" error. The solution is to use cache2ext/sd (for CM7). If it is your only solution for Reborn ROM, it is not a bad solution at all...

I attempt to format through recovery and this is what I get

Formatting SDEXT:...
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 or (/dev/block/mmcblk0)
(invalid arguement)
error mounting /sd-ext/!
Skipping format...
/sd-ext wipe complete!

You wont use link2sd with cache2sd... When using cache2sd, you also wont see it in internal memory. Its almost like it's hidden. The only way to know it's working is to download alot of apps. You should be able to download as many as you want now. :)

Okay so I gave it a test run, just attempted to DL a whole bunch of games. I still get insufficient space errors and Phone Memory is Low notification.

I suggest starting from the beginning. Copy all of your sdcard contents to your computer that you want to save. Then partition the sdcard with the recovery menu (because we know that it works), then the next step is to download and installed busybox installer by Jrummy. Once that is installed, update the busybox on your phone. Then, while the phone is still on, run the commands that I linked for ext4. You should get no errors for the commands. Then reboot to recovery and flash the file I linked. Done. :)

EDIT: Also, please follow the instructions as I am giving them to you and do not follow other tutorials. This is your tutorial. Following other things and getting errors will cause more issues and more frustration. This is all you need to do listed in this post. :)

Apologies. I was simply trying different methods that I could find. I will try what you suggested and thanks for the help. I really appreciate it.

No worries. Its admirable that you are trying to do it on your own. It helps with experience for the user and gets the user more familiar with the processes. Probably the most important thing is you trying to figure it out. Ive been through it already, and trust me, it took some time to figure out. We will get you there. I appreciate you being receptive and going with the instructions given. Make sure to post your results! :D

Reborn ROM moves the dalvik cache from /data to the /cache partition to save internal data space. Data2ext moves /data to the sd-ext partition giving lots of space to load apps. The trouble is that cache is still limited and you run out of cache long before you run out of apps to install. I tried the cache2sd script listed earlier and it moved it to sd-ext partition but it still had the size limitation which it is created with. It can be left internal or moved to the sd-ext partition but needs the limitation increased. I've got .98 GB of internal memory open but still can't load or update because I'm out of cache. I'm going to look into a solution of the cache problem.

Well after an interesting adventure, it was something wrong with a rom I flashed or the kernel, also apparently I had multiple copies of busybox installed. So I tried to flash to stock, it bricked my phone, so I unbricked it, wiped clean. Got back to my old settings, partitioned properly and now it works!

Good to hear its finally working! Thanks for the update! Stick around the forums and bug people. We don't bite (well, most of us) ;)
