Does anyone have a list of the pre-installed junk that comes stock?
I'm wanting to find the applications that open up once the phone boots and block them. I know there are applications that auto open ass son as you close them, I'll leave these alone.
But the ones that only open upon booting- I want to kill these.

There's so much RAM in this phone but most of it is being eaten up by junk.

Good question, and there is plenty of it:

  • Bitbop
  • Blockbuster
  • City ID
  • Kindle
  • Lets Golf 2
  • Mobile IM
  • Rhapsody
  • Rock Band
  • Slacker
  • TuneWiki
  • All vCast apps
  • VZ Nav

My definition of bloatware, is anything that Verizon layered on top of what HTC has on there.

I would avoid killing any running apps, because they will just get restarted on their own, causing you even further troubles. Android does have it's own built in memory manager and will close apps for you as needed.

What we really need is root. Once we have that, we can move all that garbage over to the SD card for safe keeping.

Awesome thanks a lot. It's a huge amount of bloatware. I have the same available RAM as I did on my Inc.

first android phone...so is there a way to stop them from running at all....i def cant wait to root to get rid of some of this junk

Actually, you can finally remove City ID. The way to get rid of it (I don't remember all the exact wording for each menu but it's similar to what I wrote): 1. Click on the City ID icon in your programs list. 2. Click the "Stop trial". 3. Click on the "remove application". 4. It will tell you that it will be removed on the next reboot.

Looks like enough people complained about CityID and they added a way to remove it. Not easily but at least it's a way.

i hate all this garbage that they put on the phone

and they shouldn't be allowed to stop you from deleting it

if you guys wanna vote me into congress, i'll make it a law

= )

I tried your instructions it looks like it just does the pm disable cause the file is still there.

Keep in mind some Bloat ware may be perfectly goo applications, just not neccesary to be pre loaded.

TuneWiki is a good example.

But i agree once we purchase a phone we should be able to ( without root) delete any non essentail apps ourselves.

Sprints Nascar App.. FAIL 1st thing i dumped after root
