List of nexus 7 2013 problems

so... I know we're just speculating here, but many people here are reporting problems being solved after getting a replacement device. So these are probably hardware problems?

Can't wait to go fly with it. (We run the Garmin Pilot app on it. When bluetoothed to an ADS-B receiver, we get free traffic and weather overlaid on a moving sectional map. All of this was Star Trek stuff just two years ago...)
You should wait.

I read some of those too but most of those people just do not install the OTA update that screws up the touch screen.

Google Groups

I cannot believe Google stopped responding to this thread. This is a huge disappointment for me. Didn't expect it from Google

Got the new N7 and knew in advance about the touch issues after the software update... I played before the update and it was prefect. Updated anyway and now can't even swype reliably.

The fact that it's a sw issue calms me down but I'm shocked Google still hasn't fixed it, not even talking about releasing it in the first place.

Any updates on that?

Otherwise prefect

Updated it right after taking it out of the box before installing anything on it and I don't have any touchscreen issues at all (fortunately).

What's your sn? You can look it up in About Tablet>Status
Mine is 059a4319.
Also, have you tried the touch test app? You can also use Show Touches in the Developer Options..... Try 2 fingers at the same time crossing axis. I see those dots going nuts about 70% of the time
Thanks

I've had some really strange experiences the last couple of days with my 2013 N7. Bear with me as i try to explain.

A couple days ago I picked up my N7 after work and noticed the Fandango app had an update waiting. I tapped 'Update', and while it did its thing, i went to check something in the Play Store app settings, and noticed the version was 4.2.9. When the Fandango app finished updating, i opened it up to check out some showtimes. After that i went back to the Play app, into the settings again, and noticed that the app version had been bumped up to 4.3.1. When i tapped the home button, the N7 locked up, and i couldn't do anything at all. I powered it down and attempted to reboot, but no luck. I could get as far as the boot animation, but no further, no matter how long i let it run, or how many times i attempted to reboot. The only thing that worked was to completely wipe everything via fastboot, reinstall 4.3, and start from scratch. I thought my problems were solved, as everything seemed to work fine once i got everything re-installed and configured again.

Until i came home from work today, that is.

Upon arriving home, i unlocked my N7 and was greeted by several dialog boxes indicating that both the stock calendar app and Currents had crashed. Neither app could be opened, as they'd immediately crash. I thought maybe uninstalling/reinstalling updates for Calendar, would help, but the Play Store would crash immediately and could not be launched. I went into settings>apps and tried uninstalling updates and clearing data for all three apps, but only the Play Store app seemed to benefit from this. Nothing seems to help Calendar or Currents. They won't sync or open, and i've also just noticed that the Gallery immediately force closes when i try to launch that, too. My Google Voice app, which i used last night with no problems whatsoever, had lost all its data and had to be reconfigured from scratch. I'm still going through the rest of my apps one at a time to see if there are problems with any of them, but so far all other Google apps are working properly.

I'm perplexed as to what the problem is. Software issue? Hardware issue? I'm at a bit of a loss, but in any case i'm calling Google Support to ask for a replacement, just to be safe. I'm hoping that the N7 i have now is just a lemon, and not indicative of more widespread problems.

P.S...I tried using the N7 in safe mode, but i can't get anywhere because the Launcher continuously force closes on me.

Returning mine to Google.
This is the first time I have ever returned anything from Google but I will not take a risk and find out it's a HW issue after my 15-day return expires.
Google has been extremely unprofessional on this wide spread issue. All they have to do is either bite the bullet and tell us it's a HW issue (and obviously accept returns) or calm us down by saying the SW fix is coming.

As it stands now, I can't even gesture type reliably, which makes this N7 useless.

Just brought mine home from Worst Buy, and spent the last few hours downloading/configuring/updating. So far, so good -- and this new screen is AMAZING!

Heck, I thought the old N7's screen was sharp, but this thing is incredible. Can't wait to go fly with it. (We run the Garmin Pilot app on it. I would suggest you check the various forums describing a problem w/ the gps, or test it yourself, before you use it for flying or driving.

GPS is clearly a SW bug and will be fixed. This touch screen issue starts to happen after the SW update but not to everyone so it seems to be a HW issues exposed by SW

It looks like the issue with MX Player has to do with jelly bean 4.3 and not the new nexus per se. My 2012 nexus 7 received its 4.3 update and now the player isn't working, error message says it's not compatible with the new OS.

Is it not working at all for you or just certain functions? MX Player was the first thing I installed on my mine when I got it yesterday and it seems to be working fine.

Edit: I just saw that it was updated on 8/6, so perhaps that's why I didn't see the problem.

Yes, it's working night now, since version 1.7.16.

+1 for touch screen "unresponsive" - seems to only happen on webpages/chrome

That is probably the javascript engine. As someone who write js everyday I know how easy it is to make any browser go unresponsive. One of the worse is the xda-developer.com site. All of the ads kill that site.

My problem is battery drain from media server. The first time it was using 63%. Reboots had minimal effect. Called Google and was told to reboot and recharge. That seemed to work till the next time when media server was using 83%. Called Google and this time was told to check running apps, there were none but Google apps. Told to stop them and still no effect. No music, video, or pictures on the device, so what could cause this?

Anyone else get a periodic screen blink/flash. I don't know if it's hardware or software so I don't know if I need to return/exchange mine or not.

Same issue here. I read someone suggested to turn off 'auto' brightness option.

On the keyboard when I tried to press 'space' bar sometimes I accidentally hit 'Home' button. It so annoying.

I've had a few random reboots on mine, and most of the time I'm watching a video.

I went through 4 units before finding a perfect one. Literally, this one is perfect. The manager at Best Buy let me open a few and I was able to choose the best one. Of course they then made me buy the other open ones and then immediately return them. I hope I'm not flagged at BB because they did use my ID for the returns.

Is the ADS-B receiver only for planes? What I found via google was $600-700 for the receiver :-O

I'm having an issue where WiFi and Bluetooth will not operate properly at the same time. Initially it's fine but after a few minutes the connection speed slows to a crawl. Releasing the Bluetooth re-establishes the fast WiFi connection.
