Went in today and staples had one in stock, thought I would be walking out with it but when I showed cashier coupon (although don't think he was cashier, they called him up when I asked for the tablet, he pulled it from the back and rang me up at a new register) I was told the coupon wouldn't apply. Many customers had tried using it but system wouldn't take it. So I decided to pass until I find another way to get it for $199
many people got to use that coupon, but since it was pre nexus 7 release, I'm sure at some point they changed the arrangement and cancelled the coupon. but I still hear of people using it, so it could just either be a mistake on their part, or other stores are just blindly accepting it anyways.
either way, you're really not going to find any discounts on a device....especially before its release date. it still doesn't come out for another 2 days officially.
I just don't see why you're expecting soo much here. google itself probably makes LESS than $30 off each 16GB tablet, perhaps a bit more due to the 32gb price gouging (since 32gb of emmc is actually about 5$ to produce) so it's not like anyone can afford to sell it for less. keep in mind, at $229, that also includes retailers profits on top of google's. there's very little margin to reduce prices anytime soon.
the price really isn't going to drop any time soon, not for at least 6 months anyways. and by them, the devices tech will be slightly older, reducing its usable shelf life by 6 months, to save a measly 30 dollars, which is like just $5 a month extra in cost. that's you not buying the nexus 7, just to save $5 a month for 6 months. not exactly a good trade off.
