Live Messages stopped working after Pie update

I have a Samsung S8 phone (US Cellular carrier) running Android version 9 and One UI version. I previously had installed the live messages feature and was able to use it perfectly--I could create and send the animated live messages. However, I just noticed that after a recent update this feature has stopped working--when I click on the heart icon to open live messages, the phone freezes for a few seconds and then an error message pops up saying "Live message keeps stopping", and I am unable to create a live message. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the live message app (along with the Samsung neural keyboard required for the live messages) several times, but this hasn't helped. I get an error message when I try to install the keyboard part of the app that says simply "App not installed". Can anyone please offer suggestions on how to fix this issue? Thanks!
