Live OTA Thunderbolt Check In Here Please

His point was proven quite well.

Aside, I had a thought... There will be a maintenance on the 15th to remove the hotspot feature (the free promo ends). They may do all the OTA work then. Just a thought.

I don't know where all this OTA/Maintenence BS is coming from regarding the Mobile Hotspot feature. They don't need no stinking OTA nor "Mainentnace" to simply turn off the Mobile Hotspot service. They simply configure their servers not to allow a Mobile Hotspot connection without authorization (payment). OTA Udate and the Mobile Hotspot feature really are not related to each other.

A little proof reading and a grammar/spell check will always do wonders to advance your point of view and your case.

Come on man...it's not always easy when tapping out replies. I feel the message was clear. We are al guilty @ times :p

What happened to all the "we are aware of the problem and a fix will be released within the next two weeks" replies from HTC, Tango, etc? Mind you, I love the phone, and I know new handsets are sometimes released with a few bugs here and there but let's be honest...Tbolt has quite a few and some of those bugs are keeping certain main features from working properly or not at all. Unfortunately, it seems that "quantity over quality" is becoming the norm. I'm sure this is not the first time this has happened with a handset but since this is my first smartphone, I guess I am just starting to notice it.

Maybe some people have had a lot of issues with their phone, but I have not. Yeah, I have the peeling on the kickstand and there is a light leak that I don't even notice unless I'm in a literal pitch black room, but performance of my Thunderbolt has been great.

I'm not going to say I'm an expert on smartphones because this is only my third (and first Android), but to base your opinion on the quality of a phone with no prior smartphone experience I feel is a little presumptuous.

i need this 3g/4g issue fixed. we all pay top dollar for the service

Can anyone ansswer this?

What is verizons policy if they cant provide me service?

Would they swap out phones and give me a 3g phone? Dont get me wrong, i love the TB and it would be my last resort to get rid of it. But it is a little aggravating thhat the guy next to me have no issue with his blackberry on verizon and i can not get a data signal if my life depended on it.

Any thoughts?

What 3G/4G issue? You'll have to be a little more specific. I'm having no issues with 3G/4G. In fact ever since the 4G outage, my phone has been a little too quick to jump down to 3G if it loses the LTE signal. It doesn't happen very often, but when it does it usually goes straight to 3G and then it takes it a little while to go back to LTE.

i just lose all data signal. Happens at work most of the time. once in a while at home.

most of my company uses verizon, an no one havs any issues here.

any ideas?

my wifes phone does the same thing

I wish I had your phone. Sometimes, one bad experience can leave a lasting impression on any first time buyer, not only for a phone but for any product for that matter. Like I said, I love the phone but the point of my post was it's been a while since we were told that a fix was on the way in a couple of weeks and we haven't heard any update on these fixes. Quality over quantity is meaning they (meaning any company nowadays) push a product out knowing there are some major flaws in them that will give some customers a really bad experience. I don't have light leak or a kickstand peeling so, it's apparent there are different people with different problems that some can deal with and some will get frustrated at. Once again, love the phone, but it's been almost two months so, the "a fix coming in two weeks" has come and gone with no update.

What is someone removed and backed up the built in HS app and restored it after 5/15?

Then it would attempt to reautorize you for the service and make you agree to pay most likely just as if you downloaded the app from the market. Or else it just wouldn't work on the new os build.

Kinda figured as such. But would a new OTA mess up rooted phones?

That depnds on wehat you did after rooting but very possibly. Its always best to apply these updates as close to stock condition as possible. And yes you would most likely loose root.

When I don't *have to have* 4g, I turn off the 4g back to 3g via Phone Info and also turn off the attempt of eHRPD via the ##778#. When I've done that, it drops into the 'old' 3g and works fine.

This has a 100% success rate for me in grabbing and keeping any data. It bums me out of course since I could have had access to that level of stuff with a free DroidX or other 2010 era phone.

Why are you assuming it will be removed? That's silly. I think it will remain so you can access it to sign up for the feature.

The maintenance I was speaking of I believe will be on the account side of things, and may not be on the device end. However, it would not be a surprise that your device would still need to be refreshed with the new information.

Aside, it is a possibility that since the memo said you would have to download the app in order to continue the service, they may remove the app from your phone altogether on the 15th. I assume this download will be from the Verizon section of the Android Market, but it may have to be downloaded from the V Cast App Store.

And no, the OTA update and MHS promo are not related, but if they do remove the app from all TBolts on 05/15, then they *may* throw the OTA update in with it together.

As with most OTA's that I know of, it checks the firmware, baseband, kernel, software build, OS versions, and the system folder first to ensure that the update needs to be done.

In some cases I have heard OTA's failing/being blocked due to root/jailbreaking. In others, I have heard of it removing the modifications. In rare cases, I have heard of it bricking the device, but that was with cracked Blackberries entirely.
