Lock Password vs PIN?

I have a Pixel 6 and my previous phone was a 3a XL. With the 3A I had an actual password on the phone but the 6 only let's me use a lousy PIN which I hate.

Am I missing something? Why would this be changed? Seems like a step backwards.

The Pixel 6 series has the standard PIN, Pattern, Password options in Security Settings.

Thanks, I don't know how I didn't see that while I was poking around or why the default with the 3aXL was password and on the 6 it was PIN.
