Verizon Galaxy S8 Lock Screen Lights Up Randomly

Hey guys im new to android so this might be a dumb question but, When my phone is on my desk the lock screen just randomly lights up. Is there a way to turn this off as it has already effected my battery life. Thanks!

Typically the only time that would happen is if there is a notification of some sort.

See I thought so too. But when my phone is on my desk facing up it will light up. Not all the way but it will light up and be dim for no reason. No notifications or anything

It appears that the front camera is measuring ambient light levels and adjusting the brightness based on that. If you lock the phone when the camera is covered up, it is dim, if you move it to sunlight, it's bright.

Is there a way to disable this? It's rather annoying lol
