This subject was reviewed about a year ago and there was no clear solution. Has anyone found a solution to this problem? My lock screen is very dim most of the time and occasionally bright sometimes. There is no pattern to the behavior. Any change?

Are you able to get into the fastboot and Recovery Menus? If so, is the screen still abnormally dark?
If your device is on, turn it off.
Press & hold the Volume down button. While holding Volume down, press & hold the Power button until the device turns on. You'll see the word "Start" with an arrow around it.
Press the Volume down button until you highlight "Recovery mode."
Press the Power button to start recovery mode. You'll see an image of an Android robot with a red exclamation mark.
Press & hold the Power button. While holding Power, press the Volume up button once. Then release Power.
If the screen is still dark in these menus, it's a pretty safe bet that you are experiencing a hardware failure, probably related to the LCD panel on your device. The only option at this point would be to have the device repaired, if possible. You could do a seach to see if there are any 3rd party repair centers that would be willing to take that on. This would be at your own risk, of course.

Thanks for the very detailed response to my question. I have a severe disability in that I can only use my left hand to use the phone. Performing all those keypresses would be impossible for me to perform. Because the problem is intermittent, I'll just have to live with it. Thanks

Question about engaging Safe Mode? I recall from another device that if I used Safe Mode, after exiting, I would lose the placement of icons on my Home and subsequent pages and also lose Widget installs. In other words it was a pain. Is that still the case?

FWIW. Please refer to the very first post in this thread. I have been trying all sorts of things to get rid of the problem. One was to go to Settings, Display and reduce Brightness to below 100%,then return the Brightness to 100%. The lock screen is now BRIGHT all the time. It's now been two days and it is still Bright. If anyone else is having the same problem, I hope it works for you.
