Locked screen notification for new Emails

I love the ability to jump directly from the locked screen (ie, the state where the screen is locked and the lock icon appears on the screen) directly to a new text message by just sliding the lock icon over to the "New Message" box that appears. Is there a similar way to do this with the pre-installed Gmail app? It would be so helpful to be able to slide the lock over to a "New Email" box and have the Gmail app open automatically instead of having to manually launch it.

Any tips?

There is Screenatic (is in the market) which is still in beta testing. It will let you quickly go to mms, email, camera bypassing the lock screen. But remember they are still in beta testing. When I tried it, there were still a few glitches and bugs to be worked out.
